Am I right in thinking that sub 2 hour pace is 14:10/5km, and if so that that is (1second)?faster than Tirunesh Dibaba‘s women’s 5k world record??
That is totally insane!

8 separate groups of pacers I think...
No flags or balloons though. I am disappoint.

Nice to see it happen. But I've just clicked who Ineos are. Slime.

This is interesting graph - why the spike for the sub 3 zone? Other than it being a popular objective perhaps?

Just that by the look of it, judging by other spikes.

It'll be entirely down to it being popular.
My only standalone marathon was 3:15:29. If I felt I was near to sub 3 then I'd have gone for it. But I don't think I'd have had enough knowledge to know if actually a 2:56 or 2:58 was doable etc. so I'd go for the nice big target.Same for the big 3.30 and 4.00 spikes. And the drop off at 3.01, 3.31, 4.01 etc
Having thought about it, if my only standalone marathon was 3:00:29 instead of 3:15:29 then I reckon I'd have found that 30 seconds to go sub 3 that I didn't bother to look for to go sub 3:15

Take into account people training, the Strava population, the runs that get published etc. That selection looks like it's skewing what is almost a normal distribution.

Makes sense. Ta everyone.
In other news, felt I ran well at xc but was 70 places and about 3mins slower than last year
-
• #21113
Similar story here. Went out hard and then got passed by many people in the final mile. Still thought I ran OK - the results suggest otherwise.
-

I started slow and ramped it up ok gaining places right through to the finish. Maybe it was the extra mud... last year was bone dry.

I had a 50k race today - The Run with no Witty Name. Just constant mud, hills and rain. Not a single flat mile. 3500' of up and down. Caught up with a chap about half way around and we stuck together for the remaining miles, crossing the line in joint 6th. Slower time than I was hoping for but better result than I was expecting!
Pretty tired legs, but feel like I've done a hard run as opposed to feeling like a complete zombie which I often do after long races. Training must be doing something.

Looks like a good run to me. The results are mad! When you've got sub-2:30 marathon runners failing to make our scoring ten or the top 50...
So I wasn't too disappointed with my first Surrey League position outside the top 100. First race since May and not very far behind some club mates I'll be chasing down as I get quicker. -

Lognormal, surely?
Those big data sets from strava must be quite useful for callibrating some of the pace predictor models - mcmillan etc...

Didn’t end up managing to run the royal parks half but cheered my buddy around. Ended up chasing him round Hyde park for the last 4 miles - screaming ‘encouragement’ at him. Miserable day but a great atmosphere and so many people working hard and raising money for charities 👏

My asthma has not been great so far this winter so I’ve started running indoors on a treadmill. I’m finding it much harder than the road/trails. Any tips to increase m enjoyment or do I just need to HTFU and get on with it?

I want to do a marathon on a fast flat course in the weeks of Saturday 4 April - Satuirday 18 April 2020, or Saturday 23 May to Saturday 30 May 2020. Hive mind - what do you recommend?
-
• #21124
Just missed the dates, but 5th April is Greater Manchester which claims to be flattest in the UK
-
• #21125
Actually - that might work. Was half term dates but I can do weekends either side as well.
"In Australia, Landy is remembered for his performance in the one mile final at the 1956 Australian National Championships prior to the Melbourne Olympic Games. In the race, Landy stopped and doubled back to check on fellow runner Ron Clarke after another runner clipped Clarke's heel, causing him to fall early in the third lap of the race. Clarke, the then-junior mile world record holder, who had been leading the race, got back to his feet and started running again; Landy followed. Incredibly, in the final two laps Landy made up a large deficit to win the race, something considered one of the greatest moments in Australian sporting history. Said the National Centre for History and Education in Australia, "It was a spontaneous gesture of sportsmanship and it has never been forgotten."[6] Sculptor Mitch Mitchell created a bronze sculpture of the moment when Landy helps Clarke to his feet. It has recently been moved from the north west corner of Punt Road and Swan Street to Olympic Park, Melbourne."
