3ttt Pista Quill Stem Crack?

Posted on
  • Need some advice on the following: I got this 3ttt Pista stem only to realise (too late after the purchase) that it has some small hairline cracks and chips (flakings) on the underside of the body, where the cast seems to have been finished in the mould, or where a filler material has been used to smoothen things.
To the naked eye, the crack does not seem to extend deeper beyond the surface layer of the flaked area, but there are hairline cracks all along the wedge where the cast has been finished (as can be seen in one of the photos).
The question is: would this be structural and therefore unusable, or rather a surface issue?

  • How much to replace that stem? Not too expensive I guess... get a decent one on here make a wanted thread, so many nice fellow folks we had on here that happy to give you for free...

  • Not worth the risk on a stem.

  • This is a 3ttt Mod. 2 (64 degree angle), which are rather rare, and not too cheap to come by. But thanks for the advice: I'll ask here.

  • which are rather rare

    Because they all snapped?

I wouldn't use that. Brain Surgery/Dental work tends to cost a lot more than a new stem.
