Can confirm. If I wasn't lazy I would dig through the invoices and tell you how many £ tips I got per £ earned cycling around. Probably 1-3%.

People should tip them, giving the rider £1 on top of the £30 you're already spending on pizza is no big deal but it means a >25% boost in earnings for them.

Edit: I still know some Deliveroo people. They are all very angry as the fees are being driven down as Deliveroo attempts to become profitable.

I found the same thing. Part of the reason why I decided to go mesh - just less of a headache trying to work out which to buy.

Went with the BT one. Got three units and I think it was somewhere around £100-150? Can’t remember. It seems to be working pretty well. Certainly better than the powerline and range extender solution I was using before.

I totally get you. Makes it worse when you end up on Amazon and they throw in 'Featured' items, reviews from Amazon.com which don't relate to the .co.uk version and duplicated items.

Without starting a massive slanging match. Are Deliveroo etc any different from say Hermes in terms of rubbish employment terms etc. I can’t imagine people tipping your Hermes delivery?
Genuine question is there something that categorises it differently to you?

I tip all of our delivery guys at Christmas, but judging by the sometimes tearful reactions, I don't think it's particularly commonplace.

Here's my fairly pathetic earnings from working for Deliveroo if anyone cares. Probably about 250 deliveries total. More tips than I thought, plus you get a pound in cash from time to time. The bottom rows are older and it certainly felt like I got more tips back then. Not sure what (if anything) changed. Could work out a p-value on it and see if it's significant

I do agree it's odd to tip Deliveroo people and not parcel delivery people, but maybe the expectation of tips is factored into what you're paid, as it is with wait staff. We should just pay people normally and do away with the whole system.

£50 tips in that time? That's really poor.

I mean, I know it's not the same as tipping restaurant staff but I do like to tip deliveroo people about 10% of the value of the order because I know how shit their conditions are and regard it as a lazy fat bastard tax on me for not being arsed to cook.

I had assumed, obviously wrongly, that more people do that.

I used to tip regularly, I very rarely do now. The non tipping thing isn’t something I’m 100% comfortable with but I’m against the concept so I’ve tried to counter that by using the same driver for airport runs etc. Going to the same hairdresser for over 3 years (with significant price rises). I don’t use Uber or food delivery companies out of choice.
But getting an online delivery is somewhat out of your hands and I’ve not really found a way around it.

Plus some cash, which bought a pint every so often. I didn't keep track of that because I was never going to earn enough to pay any tax anyway.

Usually gifts. We get a case of decent wine in and some boxes of figs and chocolates for the non drinkers. Occasionally, for people we get to know well, cash in a card.
