The 6 riders going up were on the same 'slow but steady ride', so most probably a contributory factor. The guy coming down was on same day, but a bit later AFAIK.
Not to be a doomsayer,(and plenty of people normally cross it without incident) but that many in a day was worth mentioning!
It is in a position that catches run off from a muddy track, oil and various car deposits from people dropping a gear to get up the steep bit, and general leaf litter. It's also at a shitty angle, so forewarned etc etc.
The cattle grid on the climb has claimed 7 local victims this week, one descending (found semi-conscious) and 6 climbing(partial deglove of leg). Local hospice is holding an event this weekend, so hopefully council might repair it fairly sharpish.
