This is amazing. Glad it’s not my size.

Beautiful. Shame I'm a poor Northern hobbit.

Cheaper than 853 CdF and still possibility of small customisations built by the most experienced framebuilder in this country. Whats not to like?!
-
• #5
head tube is 1"
-
• #6
"possibility of small customisations" can be altered to 1 1/8th ;)

I'm only teasing - it's a stone cold bargain.

A nice frameset, but I challenge your claim:..built by the most experienced framebuilder...and good luck with the sale Osteovelo.

• #9
Very nice that - does it have a horizontal top tube?
Any pictures of frame and fork together on wheels maybe?Edit just reread ‘will post more pictures when it’s done’, sorry!

built by the most experienced framebuilder
28 years at Roberts, then 2-3 years as Varonha. That's some pitch - I don't know where he was before Roberts but potentially some more tenure to add from that.
Who else have we got who is still in action, Geoff Roberts for one, who may well have some years on Winston, anyone else?

I was thinking of Geoff (Roberts) tutored by his Dad Charlie, and building from the age of 14.
No disrespect to Winston, he was at Holdsworth before Roberts (I believe). I a little fussy about details, would not have posted if very had been used instead of most! -

There are a number of bespoke framebuilders in the north and a few in London with flawless frames and spotless reputations who have been building for nearly five years I'll have you know

Anyone other than Geoff that you know of? Geoff and Winston are the two longest serving builders that I know of, unless there's someone who has been knocking out Bromptons for 45 years without shouting about it.

Of course, pay the Bicycle Academy whatever it is, £2,500? Then knock out corkscrews masquerading as bike frames and be invited to give talks about how awesome you and your work is.

What are the clearances? Does it have mud guard and rack mounts? Very tempted to do something like this.

He did a long stint at Holdsworth before that
-
• #17
Dave Yates must have been doing it for a few years.

Fair enough!

Kevin Sayles? Started in '71.

Woodrup now, where was he before Thorn?
-

Mercian probably have to most experienced framebuilders in the UK.
Imo. -
• #22
I believe he started at Bob Jackson, and did a stint at Thorn.
I also think he sometimes builds under his own name. He's a blood good builder.
I also think Paul Riley of preston has been building for ever.

clearance is for 32mm with mudguards
top tube is level
it doesn't have rack mountsbut that can be fixed!

Experience shouldn't just be measured in years. There's materials used, types of frames built, cups of tea drank.
Someone could easily amass more experience in 5 years than one of the builders at Mercian who has been knocking out the same lugged frames for 35 years (albeit beautifully).

Hello
In October @Mat-CR was interested but it took us a while to sort a viewing! So here are some pics set up for his measurements. I have Bike CAD so can set it up however you'd like. Frame is near BoxHill but can be viewed in Wandsworth at my brothers. It can run a 32mm with a mudguard. Any questions please ask.
