Brian Rourke 853 - All Road

Those Lifeline skewers have a hard plastic rather than brass concave washer that deforms if you do them up tight (i.e. you do them up). Leads to creaking and potentially worse. Definitely wouldnt use them again, and certainly not on a disc brake setup. Stick to internal-cam skewers (e.g. Shimano) unless you have a desperate need for something else.

I've been reading up on the quick release thing. I'll definitely go with the internal-cam solution and pass on the lightweight. I had no idea how important this was. QR's has been something i've always neglected. The ones i run now are absolutely horrible

Thinking the Shimano XT's will do the job.

Ordered a couple of these now. Cost half the price of 9100, and i'm pretty confident they will do the job

Continuing to update the Brian Rourke. Been pushing some serious miles on it, and enjoying the bike through this season.

Meanwhile i snatched up an (almost) mint condition oldschool BMC slr01 frame which i plan to build up in the upcoming months, ready for the new season! I've always loved BMC and the aesthetics of their carbon frames. Never could afford one though lol

This one is of course with rim brakes and from a 10 speed generation. It's got a bb30 which doesn't serve me well with my building plans. I have to find a good adapter for hollowtech cranks. Would love some tips for a good adapter?

People seem ok with the two piece Praxis

I recently switched to Cbear on both my PF30 Supersix and BB30 Caad10 after speaking to the owner and have been creak free since.

I know ceramic has it's own discussion around it, but the shells are machined a fraction larger which seems to eliminate creaking.

What about the Token ones? Are they reliable? Pricing is one thing, but they seem to get good reviews from what i have read.

The FSA threaded adapters are good and they're fifteen quid. You need to press them in and secure with bearing retainer compound. After that, you can fit whatever threaded BB you like. Certainly cheaper and less creaky than a Praxis.

+1 for the FSA adaptor. Needs special loctite (that comes with the kit). Brilliant and simple and not a creak out of my Spesh since installing it.

By contrast I had nightmares with the Token adaptor that came installed on a Genesis Volare 953 frame I bought. The bearing cups were 1. too small by about 0.4mm and 2. out of round by about 0.3mm. Putting a crank with new bearings in made for instant gritty tight horrors. I spent hours very carefully filing and measuring the inside of the cups until they were 0.05 smaller than the OD of the bearing and perfectly round, and since then has been perfect.
