Is a brand new Kojak more or less puncture resistant than a worn Brompton tyre? Asking for a friend (me). Thx
-
• #7428
Depends how worn...
Generally less.

Figured as much. My Brompton tyre’s beginning to disintegrate but it still looks more repellent than a Kojak.

@R.hobbs How the fuck do you reassemble the new 2sp shifter? Cable jammed, had to pull it open and now I can’t even locate the spring or even pop the cover back on. Stupid fucking cheap crap shite.
-
• #7436
You don’t! You ask me nicely to send you a new one!!
Or Use a sturmey one, never an issue with those!!
-
• #7437
Gah. Got there in the end, tho the spring doesn’t seem to do anything, not that you can tell on those things. God, they’re shite aren’t they?

Ergonomically they are better....? Positive mental attitude.... okay, they are piss poor.

You got an absolute bargain.
£500 would be fair for a non ti in that condition
-
• #7441
Yeah, I know. He tried to give me £50 back as I didn't haggle. I couldn't take it.
-
• #7442
Top bloke!
Be nicer with that rack off, horrible things!
-
• #7443
Yeah, that will be happening. I've got a new mudguard and ti rear stays (to match the front) on order.

The Brompton decal is confusing me.

It’s an older super-light, the chainset and brake levers were updated in 2013 so not that old. Stem is dead straight so pre 2017 m type.
(Unless it’s older and has had new levers/chainset)
Obv. Serial# will tell all.

Can the highly esteemed folk of this thread offer any pointers for someone looking to buy a second hand Brompton? A friend is on the lookout with about £500 to spend.

There are key points of component changes which indicates the age of the bike if seller won’t tell you / provide the serial number.
Generally unless it’s mint, and obviously so, it’s probably going to need some work.
Brompton’s are commuters, most of them in the uk are used not made pretty and looked at!
Parts are not too pricey, knowing what you are looking for is different to a traditional bike.
Only get work done by a Brompton dealer... I spend my time on the phone to bike shops, mainly in London, trying to service broms and they just don’t have a clue.
They don’t have the knowledge, access to the correct info or the relevant tooling.
Sometimes you get lucky with the right staff member, but save the faff.

Lovely, cheers! Will do.
