Interesting. I shall make some enquiries (or is it inquiries? I can never remember...).

just got my PII renewal terms in, and there's an explicit exclusion not just for Aluminium Composite Cladding, but
the combustibility or fire safety requirements of any cladding, glazing, external doors and / or external wall system of any building or structure; and / or
the combustibility or fire safety requirements of any component or material used in the manufacture, assembly or construction of any cladding, glazing, external doors and / or external wall system of any building or structure. So basically designing external facades is at your own risk?
(I would have posted this to the architects' forum thread, but it's a bit dead...) -

And to nobody's surprise ...

Interesting proposition here in Berlin, to use space thats caught between space given to cars.
Posting it because the towers would have windfarms on top and solar integrated in the facade, and would be connected by walk/bikeways. Mixed use between offices and apartments, which I think should be (and I think it is in Berlin) mandatory for projects of this size, so that at least there is a chance of bringing work and home closer together.
And Berlins top crazy building is in the render. . -

Ah, la ville radieuse just won't die ...
As if it needed saying, those roads need to be removed/city-ised/turned into railway lines, and a proper cityscape constructed.
Dreadful proposals, fully in the grip of science fiction nonsense and hypermobility wet dreams.

And there's a lot of competition.

Any suggestions for places to look for interesting/ unique curtain fabric?

We used Sunbrella for our front porch - incredibly durable and sun resistant.
On the other side we got some nice light, almost seersucker-like cotton from Japan off of Etsy. -

I also thought about corbusiers plan to raise the Marais to build skyscrapers.
You're right if course, putting a wind turbine on top of a high rise is like saying electric cars will solve traffic problems.
But seeing as we just get 3kms of brand new autobahn I don't think that those roads will disappear soon.
And I like sci-fi!
-
• #2737
Definitely, but most of them aren't that visible and big.
Thinking about it, maybe the umlauftank 2 of technische Universität is crazier?
-
• #2738
Well, of course they won't disappear quickly, least of all in car-obsessed (and economically heavily dependent on the car industry) Germany. I like sci-fi as fantasy, but not as a blueprint for transport policy and ways of life.

Not sure if the best place to ask, but has anyone here gone for stainless steel worktops in the kitchen, if so who did you work with?
-
• #2740
I've installed them in commercial kitchens in the past but not in a domestic setting. Can dig out the commercial firms if you want but they are unlikely to be interested in a domestic job.

We have a custom made unit with a sink that we’ve placed on an Ikea carcass. Easy to do as long as joy get the right measurements.
-
• #2742
They'll be relatively loud and you'll freak out over the initial scratches, but over time it'll visually even out.
-
• #2743
Think you can dampen them with either foam or a wood backing?
-
• #2744
Some kind of damping is pretty standard, how effective would depend on price point I guess. Are you thinking of an integrated sink as well? To me this would be the ideal, with a nice lip along the front, a six inch or so backsplash and sloping drain boards on either side of the sink.

• #2745
anyone know where to buy a twyfords barbican sink ?
-
• #2746
If you find one for a reasonable price you're doing better than me. Everywhere that claims to have one as old stock doesn't and the one that appeared on eBay a month or so ago went for over £700
Edit
I realise this is not useful, sorry! -
• #2747
I’ve used these guys. They’re good, and you can design & price it using their online tool. MR MDF core and they normally glue glav steel onto the underside to stop any warp so no clang, but heavy AF.

Yep. This is meant to be radical but taking the space dedicated to cars back would be truly radical as you say Oliver.
Separately, surely these skyscrapers that narrow at the bottom are a terrible idea from a fire safety perspective too?
-
• #2749
Thanks will look into working with these guys, I think it's going to work out simlar to getting quartz via https://www.quartzworktopsdirect.com/, I had initally hoped it would be cheaper.

haha no worries. there's obviously a market here for these, you'd think somebody would repro them
I wonder if you'd have better options looking at second hand stuff in scandinavia and having it shipped over. Check https://www.lauritz.com/en/auctions/lounge-chairs/c212/?FLId=2&FCId=5 and https://auctionet.com/en and see if you can get it shipped to London
