Might have been user error.
If you have to think about how to insert a bottle into a cage it's a shit design.

Black metal cages always look cheap.
This is why I have so many of them.

Black cages are vinyl covered and make fewer marks on stainless steel too. Dunno what the obsession with silver bottle cages is personally.

The only time I ever gave a shit about cage aesthetics was when I got my Aussie flag ones for the TT bike for some LOLs. My old TT bike has been runing a cheap-as-shit black plastic cage forever. Proper Halfords Special deal from some used bike I bought 20 years ago. :)

What is the consensus on actual side-entry bottle cages?
Salsa?
Specialized?

I have a carbon version of the spec one on my Santa Cruz. My daughter has one on her Specialized. Been pretty happy.
You can kinda see in the last picture where I used the wolf tooth doohickey to double up the cages.

are there any cages for use on smaller frames where the seattube bolts straddle the FD clamp?

I’ve got an SKS topcage and I don’t entirely trust it - I use bits of inner tube betwixt strap and frame. Is there a forum-approved strap on cage when it comes to not destroying the paint on my frame?

just bought another... great cages for the money.

What’s the cage of choice these days for a large nalgene? Widefoot liter looks ace, gorilla cage also looks practical. Got a triple boss for it to go onto.

I’ve got four of the PX ones. Really happy with them, look class and work perfectly. The brushing is quite dark on the last two I bough, like a gun-metal grey. Very nice.

Anyone using a cage less system?
About to build a frame that might not have room for a bottle to come out of a normal cage.
One of my mates had the fabric one and I think lost the bottle a couple times. The fidlock looks good but spendy. Willing to pay it if it works but would like to hear some real life reviews before forking out for it.

I’ve also had some unwanted ejects with the Fabric system. Haven’t really used it since, will probably put it on my town bike so I can occasionally carry a bottle.

I use a side entry cage on a frame where there isn't space for the bottle to come out upwards.
Works fine. -

thanks. no issues with that design + using it on the underside of the downtube? worried about a bottle popping out going over a bump

No idea, mine are on the DT and ST... all four are not on the same bike.

Might go down that route yeah.
Definitely recognise the bottle and branding. Might have been user error.
