    Kittens! We have two lefts from a litter of six, toddler trained, weaned and litter trained. 12 weeks old, black and white, female. Happy for visitors to come see their environment and meet mum. £80 each to cover cost of raising them.

    Everything is in hither green.

  • Uh kitties 😻 (Free Push)

  • Nice, listing cats along with an apple watch like they are a commodity. WTF.

  • Unfortunately not yet banned by forum rules. The basis of banning sales of kittens and puppies would be under Lucy's Law which becomes law in April 2020 https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-backs-ban-on-third-party-sales-of-puppies-and-kittens https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/774416/third-party-pets-consult-sum-resp.pdf which resulted in http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2019/1093/made

    Definitely frowned upon, but not yet illegal.

    That said... the forum is the forum, and whilst we apply the law at a minimum we can certainly do better than the minimum.

    So I'll go with the rule being that this is already in effect... kittens and puppies should not be sold on LFGSS.

    However you may offer them for no monetary value to go to a good home.

  • I have edited the advert to remove the price of the kittens... but you may find them a good home.

  • That's not correct though, this law will not ban selling kittens / puppies, it'll basically just ban 'reselling' them. So assuming OP here is actually the person who've raised them so far, he'll be completely allowed to sell them still.

    And to be absolutely honest, personally I'd rather pay someone for having taken care of a kitten. If I were looking to get one (unfortunately not as I very much don't believe in having 'indoor cats' that don't get proper space to roam), it'd be worth something to me getting one from a good home that has been looked after, doesn't have fleas, etc. etc.

    But I understand the problem with 'puppy mills' and all that.

  • The law seemed to both consider all persons as "licensed" under the law, and then to state

    "No animal of any of the following descriptions may be sold as a pet, or sold with a view to
    being resold as a pet, by or on behalf of the licence holder"

    Meaning that you cannot sell kittens or puppies in the UK after that date. Not directly, nor indirectly.

  • Sorry to be pedantic, but that is wrong. The law, after the amendment, will state:

    \5. Sale of animals

    (1) No animal of any of the following descriptions may be sold as a pet, or sold with a view to being resold as a pet, by or on behalf of the licence holder:

    (a)unweaned mammals;

    (b)mammals weaned at an age at which they should not have been weaned;

    (c)non-mammals that are incapable of feeding themselves;

    (d)puppies, cats, ferrets or rabbits, aged under 8 weeks.

    (e)puppies or kittens which were not bred by the licence holder.

    (2) The sale of a dog must be completed in the presence of the purchaser on the premises.

    (3) In this paragraph, “kitten” means a cat aged less than 6 months.

    The amendment is confusing, because it essentially gives a list of diffs rather than the end result so it takes some digging to get the full resulting text of the law. In any case, it's still the case that puppies and kittens can be sold as before. Just not by a third party (if younger than 6 months, otherwise that's still fine too), and not if they are too young or unweaned (which hasn't changed).

  • Hmm, you are right.

    Still doesn't change whether I will allow animals to be sold on the site though.

  • Just to clear this up, the kittens are from a home where they were raised by hand, and with love. Their mother is a rescue, and was pregnant when we rescued her. The only reason I wanted some cash was to recoup some of the money it cost to feed, clean and provide fresh litter form them as we are hard up for money and could do with getting some of it back. We are not looking for profit, and putting cats up for free put them in danger of being ‘adopted’ for things like dog fights.

  • No, that's obviously a different matter. Personally I don't have an issue with kittens etc. costing some money if there is evidence of them having been cared for and looked after properly (including veterinary care where needed, which really isn't free), but that's your decision of course.

  • However you may offer them for no monetary value to go to a good home.

    Common opinion is that giving away (rather than selling) kittens and puppies to people on the internet is more risky for them.

  • Moustache bars gone
