  • They initially said "New Year", which I suppose depends on how you interpret that - I understood "January", whereas you might also hear "2020"

  • Watching the series now. The director seems well knowledgable.

  • Just finished it too. Not sure it's the final one tho.

The ATD is unbelievable - what was it? 40hrs of detailing on a newly painted car? Most of it just on two body panels.

The engine bay is pure sex and overall I'm a fan of the understated style. But honestly the base car isn't one that does much for me. Mainly aesthetically, but idk anything about it's providence so again it's a bit underwhelming. Definitely doesn't feel like a sum of its parts.

This is probably heretical, but they could have done the same thing to a Vauxhall Nova and I'd have enjoyed the series as much and had the same reaction to the final product.

  • The Escort has got incredible competition pedigree, and it's got the classic layout. I think it's a more interesting and exciting base than a Nova - but of course it's relative, if you don't care then you don't care.

  • I really hope it is not the last ne because at the beginning they showed the process of choosing a completely bespoke interior with various propositions to GM, I really hope we will have detailed video close-ups of the final product! I really like their videos, I think adding just footage of other of their projects without any comments just the name of the car, good camera work and music is realy great to keep the video very entertaining! and in my opinion it is the fact that it does from far seem perfectly normal and not eye-catching that makes it really nice!

  • spot on dude.

a probable change in circumstances means I might need something a little larger and a little more capable of distance than the 126. still can't bring myself to look at anything built in the last 30 years though. and will keep the 126 whatever happens.

  • 127 or 128?

    Or Honda Jazz

  • It's a hard choice, especially when large amounts of money are involved in buying an uninteresting newer car.

For me, my circumstances changed by having a child... After that the priority was a safe car that was comfortable. The only hard rule was no SUV or crossover type car.

  • e46 m3?

Modern enough to live with, but still a bit of analog.

  • I am 1700 bucks deep into the luxobarge since purchase 3 weeks ago. No such thing as a cheap newish motor. Cars are shite.

  • Love the fact the boy racer culture hasn’t died yet in Hong Kong.

  • This post could be in the hi-fi thread.

  • Fantastic! HK car culture is just great in general. I'll never forget passing an Alitalia liveried Lancia Stratos at 0800 on a Sunday morning in Shek O. Surreal.

  • What's with the whole revival of those wind/air deflectors on the side windows?

Loads of cars seem to be sporting them around me now.

They remind me of 90s French taxis. Haven't looked inside to see whether they're also rocking beaded seat covers.

It is to keep the aeros with your windows down because you "deleted" your air conditioning?

  • What’s needed doing?

Anything that could have been spotted pre purchase?

  • Wind deflectors are jdm y0!

  • There are so many mod cars here in HK it is quite believable. It really makes all the Porsches and Ferrari looks a little boring and lame IMO.

  • I am almost definitely going to plump for something older. and spend large amounts of money keeping it on the road. But will have monthly trips of 200-300 miles and the little fiat can't be asked to do that.

And later will need space to carry more human beings. Not young ones. But ones that are precious nonetheless.

  • nah, the front grill not big enough ;-)

but apart from brief consideration of picking up Nurse Holidays old estate I don't think I would ever consider a BMW. just to reduce space for thinking I reckon it will be Italian, French or possibly Japanese. With Saab and Volvo possible outliers to that.

Mainly enjoying toying with options at the moment and won't be doing anything for a couple of months yet.

  • French you say? How old are you willing to go? Citroen cx? Peugeot 504/505? Or newer?

Actually, are you a little crazy? Go for a Citroen C6... Or xm.... So good. What could go wrong?

  • What's with the whole revival of those wind/air deflectors on the side windows

Super useful in drizzle, can crack the windows and cruise with fresh city air. Or smoke/vape...

  • Would love a 504 or 505 - and would go back that far. The CX is another option too - albeit a slightly scarier one. But more of them around than the peugoets.

I used to drive my dad's 504 family estate on a fairly regular basis back in the early 90s and still recall what a lovely smooth ride it gave.

  • I'd say 504s are very solid and reliable. It's just be finding the right one that doesn't need a tonne of work. Long travel suspension, sadly a thing of the past.
