Unfortunately, New York is probably the dirtiest place I have ever been to in my entire life and it's waterways are even worse.

Agreed. Our dog stank before we went on holiday to Northumberland. A week on the beach and in the sea and he smells beautiful and his coat looks amazing.
I only ever wash him if he’s covered in shit.

Heh, hopefully it works for you as well as it did for me. We also use their deodorizing wipes on Buzz when he gets a bit smelly from being covered in dog saliva at day care but it's not necessarily shower time yet, ya know, as to avoid over-cleaning him.
