More up to date standard and some cross compatibility with my mtb wheels.

But is it really needed unless you weigh a lot? And are mtb thru axle standards the same as road thru axle standards? Imo its easier to only own wheels which have replaceable axle standards. You'll be changing the tyres if youre swapping wheels with a mtb so only takes an extra couple of seconds to swap the wheel axles

Yeah that's fair. I had a 2014 equilibrium disc with qr and it was fine, I guess I just wanted bolt thru as it's a more up to date standard.

Yeah does make sense. Definitely more future proof, as long as you can find a frame that fits all your requirements

A Danish Principia would have had a number on the drop out or track end starting with either WP or P.
Unless of course they had a different system for export frames.

I have a track Principia Jet(?) with cracked headtube and the serial number on the track ends is 60376V.
The road Principia 700 has the serial number PA13972L

I think and hope a little, that I have one of the re-sprayed Faggins, made for custom order with Columbus Airplane tubing.

What is the strat vs this rust. Seller assures me its surface level only, but I guess time will tell. Was a cheap frame and is destined for a hard life so I'm not too picky, but would like to have a go at cleaning up at least the forks + frame before putting them together.

Not really sure where to post this but I need a little advice.....
I bought a 26" mtb wheelset 2nd hand from my lbs for a price that was too cheap to miss, it takes a 15mm axle. Sooo next day I bought a 2nd hand mtb frame that was designed for a straight 1 1/8 100mm suspension fork. I cant find a lot of inexpensive light rigid fork options, I think I need a 445mm fork, Ive seen the exotic ones online for around 120 but for qr hubs https://www.amazon.co.uk/eXotic-Rigid-Carbon-Release-49-0cm/dp/B01AMN36J6?th=1&psc=1
Whats the opinion on using a axle adapter like the nukeproof ones https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/nukeproof-conversion-kit-15mm-to-qr/rp-prod80192 , is this the best option? thanks in advance for the advice, Jay

If you can't swap your hub's endcaps then yes, those step-down axles are absolutely fine

Can't really see a lot of detail but nothing there looks out of the ordinary.

Oily rag to clean the fork and slather a bit of grease on the steerer and work it into the threads. Seatposts usually look like that when they've been on the bike with no grease down the seat tube. Again, just wipe it down with an oily rag. Poke the same oily rag down the seat tube with a screwdriver and work it round and up and down a few times to clean it out, then just wipe a bit of grease down the tube. This will stop it seizing in and stop it rusting.

You could spray a bit of Waxoyl or similar down the tubes to protect the insides from rusting, but I've found it all runs out when it gets hot in the summer. It runs down into the bottom bracket shell and drips out through the bearings - which isn't ideal.

Thanks for the steer! Will get into it soon hopefully. The idea of doing some nice peaceful cleaning seems strongly appealing atm.
