Gah! I have just left a job that took me through Bridgewater every week.
Bristol is closer for me...thanks again -

Ha, ride / train down, swap for a demo bike for a few days and I’ll sort it?

Disk brake, hub gear Brompton. See SJS have the parts, and sure saw them do a full Rohloff build but can’t find it for sale anywhere. Kinetics in Scotland or Vostok in Russia (?) seem to be the go-to for frame bits.
Is there anywhere in the UK (south ideally) that will be able to have a complete bike made up without significant lead time? Assume no where will have these in stock as standard...

Afternoon, Brompton guy at SJS…
We are not allowed to advertise new bikes that been modified so you won’t see them on our social media/Website onward.
. We have two demo bikes in store and generally a number of stock bikes with disc brakes/rohloff.Currently we have no stock bikes because I’ve been very busy but its next on my list to do so if there’s something you want let me know sooner than later because I’ve got about 50 normal bikes on order with Brompton

Thanks for the reply, makes sense and half expected as much re advertising modified bikes.
What I want vs what is possible vs what I’d consider reasonable expense may be the conundrum! Ideally I’d like a disk braked, geared and dynamo-ed Brompton that is lighter than my current dynamo-ed S6L. Guess that to get this one would need to go Ti rear frame and fork? What would be a ballpark cost something like this? Feel free to PM if that’s easier, or let me know an email address I ca send questions to.

Rohloff build Starting from Non disc £2250, disc front and rear, £3000, add ti + £300
Dynamo add £200-300
Lighter than s6l... what does yours weigh?
Stock m6l made an m14l with just wheel / triangle swap is 12.97kg
Disc fork and wheel with deore hydro brakes is 13.24 -
• #7387
Thanks for the info 👍 Not sure what it weighs to be honest, but enough for me to notice it when climbing station stairs! Edit: weighs 13.5kg in current guise.
Is Rohloff the only option, it is it possible to build a wheel with an Alfine 8/11 hub?
-
• #7388
13.5kg can be beaten for sure.
Rohloff is my preference, black edition or silver components? I do have an alfine 11 wheel in silver awaiting a bike to go on...
Save &500 on a hub, you pay rrp on that not a good discount on the Rohloff, you need a shifter rather than it being included. - Jtek one is nice but £120 to factor in!
-
• #7389
Good to know 13.5kg can be beaten, would be nice to knock a kilo or so off if possible without going overboard on costs. Nice as they are, Rohloff = ££££££!
Can you pm/share your work email or best email to get in touch with at SJS to avoid a complete thread derail?
-
• #7390
I can price up how we can beat that and not bankrupt you!
Ryan@sjscycles.com ... co.uk works as does brian@sjs... ha!

Thanks for heads up, what do people do for bottles on bromptons? I've already got a front bag but not one with the bottle pouches. The monkii bottle clip looks nice but more than a bit steep for what it is.
-
• #7392
strap a cage to your toptube, monkii, behind saddle cage, bag, hand, cup holder... coffee at the cafe!
-
• #7393
Would like to give my brompton a cool respray. Is there anywhere in London that could do that for a reasonable price? Someone who can also deal with full bike and the rebuild.
-
• #7394
Pm you.

I use one of these attached to the back of the steerer/handlebars. Holds a bottle nicely, although have to be a bit careful of the food as it can stick out a bit.

So fitting a rack to the Brompton electric means when folded the front wheel is lifted and therefore the bike just falls over...
Maybe fitting 45/50mm wheels would improve it to get the wheel on the floor again...

Shocking.
In other news I’m on holiday in the Isle of Wight right now and I’ve just realised how capable the standard S6L is. Coped with all of the hills so far, feels good to ride, and is surprisingly stable even on some of the fast descents when approaching the Needles on the coastal road.

So what's the consensus on bags? Stump up for a Brompton one, or any good alternatives from other people?
I've the block already on my secondhand one, and I'd like something that can fit a laptop, change of clothes and my lunchbox.

T bag or carradice city folder.

As a semi fit cyclist the 6 speed will do you well, as someone who wants to go further / higher/ longer the rohloff offers you that much more.
6 speed is the best stock option. its faster than 2 speed and you can still go uphill.
6 speed + 58/60t chainring = fun.
Cheers, already got the carrier block
I’m in the West Country, so I am being directed to Argos
But thanks again and what a dick move using those crappy screws
