I've found this thread interesting so far. I suppose part of the reason why it's always going to be controversial is because 'boycotting' is, on the face of it, a negative thing in the sense that one seems to say: 'Most everything is good, but this is bad, therefore boycott.' I try to just follow simple rules, although inevitably I'm not 100% consistent, e.g. mostly shopping locally, trying to deal with smaller businesses in preference to larger ones where possible, and so forth. I find that a more positive set of rules, and it's also a lot easier to follow, because you don't have to remember the status of millions of different things.
