(Replying to my original comment up thread yeah I know that’s weird...)
Cleaner? Actually, that’s bollocks - it’s the efficiency that attracts the use of diesel and the knock on effect being less Co2 per mile so it looks ‘green’ and ‘clean’ compared to petrol. As above sucks more than Petrol for human health though.
Anyway, diesel>>>>> ‘I hate’ thread

Are you a 'shareholder' by any chance?

I've always wondered why Volvo, a car company who pretend to give a shit about the environment more than other car companies, don't offer a petrol hybrid and only sell diesel hybrids. They must have some sort of justification for that...

Are you perhaps suggesting that these 'edgelords' are signalling what they consider to be a virtuous character trait?

They do offer petrol hybrids - VB had one, the T8.

I stand corrected, although pretty sure there was a period recently where the petrol hybrid wasn't available. I base this on conversations with Volvo when I was looking at buying an XC60 18 months ago.
I also work with a company that left Volvo for its fleet cars because of the lack of availability of a petrol hybrid. Same sort of period ago.

The irony here is wonderful.

You are such a wind-up merchant! Of course I'm not, no.
My view on this is that Boycotting something is kinda serious, advertising your boycott on the internet more so, and you need some pretty good, water tight reasons to do so.
That the BD owners are described as pricks or something to me isn't a good enough reason on its own to consciously stop drinking their beer. So I wanted to know the detail, and to be fair, there's a list of reasons, some of which if viewed uncharitably might get BD on to some folks' 'Boycott' list - if not necessarily mine.

The latest diesels are getting pretty good even on the emissions side- its certainly possible to make a very clean diesel using all the tricks they have for cleaning the exhaust up.
The big problem in the recent past was that the tests were not fit for purpose, and so if a car company wanted to push the limits of what was acceptable, they could. VW are the famous example, but then they actually cheated the system, rather than merely designed around it/gamed it legally like most of the others - Nissan are particularly bad from recollection. The new tests should prevent much of this through being more routed in real world driving than impossible to recreate auto test cycles.
On the climate change side, diesel is significantly better. While a petrol car may put out 200g CO2 a km, a diesel car may only put out 120g. Thats quite a big difference. A well maintained modern diesel may still be the best choice for many drivers.

They do? I thought they cared more about the soft squidgy humans in the car than other makers. But I know little about car brands and what they now stand for TBH.

Fair enough. For me their copy makes me cringe enough not to buy it (that's not a boycott though). And 'Equity for Punks' is probably one of the worst examples.
It amuses me to think it's all written by the same copywriter as Innocent drinks, just switching to a slightly different persona.

I think that feel they are warriors striking a blow for what they perceive as just.

I'm afraid with those kind of opinions you may want to be looking out for an oceanic body of water to immerse yourself within in the near future

Clearly we need a Centrist Dad to guide us here

'Equity for Punks'
Seeing the guys in the new Canary Wharf branch checking their portfolios is uber-cringey.

My question to you would be: why buy beer from people who have a long list of controversies behind them when you can buy beer from other people, that is as good or better, for the same or less money?

• #143
...for expressing that the boycott thread should be about boycotts rather than 4channelling some primo clarkson?

• #144
Could we instead have a list of companies which enable ethical consumption under capitalism?
I'll start.
Um...
1.

Talking about environment, if diesel has less impact on environment in terms of CO2 per mile (but only beneficial on the more global scheme if used equivalently to a petrol car, which is not the case because nowadays if it cost less its used more etc. but anyway), but is more harmful for humans, who are in general completely destroying the environment, is it not beneficial for environment in the end to use human-harmful technology ;)?
On a more serious note, both diesel and petrol (and almost any other technology we rely upon) are shit for the environment anyway -

As an ex-CW worker, the 'Equity' bit is pretty cringey too.

Are we all just ignoring the fact that BrewDog beer is a bit shit and there's much nicer available in every single shop that sells it?
-
• #148

I think you are confusing "It's OK to buy BD beer" with "even when presented with better options, you should still buy BD beer".

Fuck this thread is making me need a beer

Funny. This is a thread designed to discuss boycotts, and predictably we have some edgelords yomping up to signal their self certified qualifications in badassery. Needy and desperate that all and sundry know how much they don’t give a fuck.
Excuse me while I swoon
