261 miles for me. Joe would have won and set a new comp record if all the miles he'd ridden during the 12 hours were taken into account. He got DNFd because he turned early, twice, and so didn't ride the course. Ignoring the two circuits he cut short, he'd be barely ahead of me

Like that 100mi Comp Record but the rider was cutting the course short not the measurers?
Did he know he was short-cutting the course? Like, did they not have marshals or what?
-
• #18854
Does it really matter? He still rode the mileage...
I get it matters.

I guess it does because if you're not riding the course, you're riding different conditions to everyone else. Unfortunately in this case it was a Comp Record but same as Burdeau's ride, rules is rules and there's no changing it up now.

When will I be able to get my hands on the 2020 calendar? Thinking about dusting off the Shiv for some 12s next year.

• #18857
Let me know when the 24 is

Oooh, you gonna finally have a crack? Cool.
It's normally late July.

He'd plotted the route onto his Wahoo but got it wrong. There were copious marshals and signs. At the roundabout where the sign said carry on, he turned, missing out a steepish climb up to the actual turn. Twice. Then realised his mistake.

If he realised during the race how come he didn't bail? Buggered if I'd smash out 12hrs knowing it wouldn't count. Maybe he didn't know the rule.
-
• #18861
I assume he thought it wouldn't matter.
-
• #18862
Yeah not super serious but as a taste, to start learning it.
-
• #18863
Broady almost got the Comp Record on his first go. No excuses. :P
-
• #18864
Lol... so going for the comp record then?

Being successful at 24h is on my long list of things I'd like to achieve.

i think once hes in a race he just goes full gas till he finishes, he knew hed been DQ'd from ironman wales this weekend for littering and still went on, running a 2:52 marathon despite the fact its less than 4 weeks from Kona so will now spend several weeks recovering and wont even have got paid for his exertions.... and probably wont do well enough in Kona to get paid either as a result*
*hopefully he does as it looks like he's had a crap year with injuries and to get dq'd from two races is pretty unlucky even if they were both technically his own fault.

unlucky
Littering and not riding the marked course are not "unlucky".

Let me know if you need some info. If I'm not busy, maybe I can help you out at the race too.

i think i saw a post somewhere prior to the 12 asking if he'd mapped the route right though, so strictly following what was on his Garmin must have seemed logical at the time, but i agree they are definitely self made bad luck, i believe they are what NFL teams call thinking errors....

Also thinking about trying a solo 24h next year. Not with a TT bike. Just my clip on aerobars, a 30km flat course and some friends at the start/finish to hand me drinks, food and encouragements.
Any tips from the pros?

Keep eating. Keep pedaling.

Sounds doable

You have to moan about it incessantly on Twitter too.

• #18874
I don't tweet when I race 24s so shuddup.
-
• #18875
That's the plan.
Congrats on the CR! What was your official distance?
What happened to Joe Skipper? Where would he have placed?
