  • they do eat the plant louses though
    ;-)

  • Lovely looking plant you have there.

My green calathea is a fussy plant, I am watering twice a week at the moment - it's leaves visibly drop when its thirsty so easy enough to tell. Also likes to be positioned away from a window.

  • I've noticed a LOT of caterpillars about the garden this summer. I dont mind as long as they turn into preddy lil butterflies however I hope they are not some kind of imported pest from some forrins lands.
I even removed one from our bathroom floor few days back. How did it end up there I have no idea.
I also have box blight in the garden.
    Are those two related?

  • As I nurse a coffee with a mega hangover this morning, I wonder if someone can enlighten me to what this gift is?

  • It's a "Dragon Tree" (Dracaena marginata).

  • Beautiful vase by the way!

  • Thank you, presumably just a propagated branch, not sure how long it’ll last in that diddy vase with no soil.
Also given a lovely new Acer and an extremely fruitful Crab Apple tree, yay middle age birthdays.

  • I have a bunch of these clay pebbles - about 3-4 carrier bags full. I need some, but I have loads left. Free, collection SE15. Pm please. Happy to split if multiple folk want some.

  • how do you solve a problem like my floppy aloe? :(
it's just so large and tall it keels over, no matter what I do.
should I cut the bottom half of it off and repot?

  • Put it on a high shelf and let it grow sideways and droop? Maybe re-pot into a larger pot? I have never seen one keel over so far without it striving to a light source.

  • I'd cut the lower leaves off, leave the stalk(?) and repot it deeper. Should be able to hold itself up then and keep as many roots as poss

  • More advanced, but anyone tried a riparium? Basically a tank where you plant species that do well in wet/riverside environments. You can also keep fish in the water bit (but I won't).

  • would this not become very green and stinky very soon?

  • that's what i was wondering but apparently not...

  • 'occasional water changes'

  • or rather that's why they suggest putting some fish in?

  • : ]

  • I'm not at liberty to say, sorry.

  • I have something similar to this in my bathroom but bigger, it's a glass tank about a meter long, about 20cm high and wide, has plants either side with water in the middle. so its kind of like a slice of a river bank. has peace lily one side and a spider plant the other. various other things have started growing in there too.

I just keep it topped up with water and let it go wild. has been going for a few years now and pretty healthy, despite periods of forgetting to top the water up.

the idea was to have a large wabi kusa set up. but it kind of changed a little.

i'll take a photo when I'm next home in the day light.

  • that sounds ace. I'd love to see it.

  • Are there any other fish keeper/aquascapists here? I havent scaped for a long time. Although my main 400l community tank is still running even though there is 7 years of neglect since we had kids etc.

This was at its cleanest looking stage

  • Does anyone have a go-to place or recommendation for largeish indoor plants - monstera (a bit cliche, but I like them), big palms, etc?

Looking to replace a large Kentia palm that died (or Mrs c00ps might have killed).
