  • Ah right. Seems more expensive than conventional lease / PCP but with less commitment.

If you want a car for 3 years, for example, not sure it's much of an advantage?

  • I think you can change more frequently, not fuss about repairs etc, and I think we'd be on 6 months or so.
    I think.

    I have no idea!

  • Any one know of any big garages/cheap storage places for a 911 and its engine not in the car between brighton and chichester?

  • 😍

  • What type of 911?

Not that I can help with storage places.

  • Think its an 08 turbo. It has a vanity plate that has been transfered.

  • Is it just me or does the new Defender look like a Skoda yeti

It's just you, and the color.

  • Are there any other obvious RWD estate cars, post 2000 other than the below? I know Volvos had a few models but these seem fairly old now.

    • BMWs
    • Lexus is300
    • Vauxhall Omega
  • Mercedes i guess but i'd rather have a BMW...

  • Good point and I agree, although would consider a Merc. Have been keeping my eyes peeled for a petrol 330i Touring which is probably my first choice, but seems there isn't loads of them about for £3-4k.

  • Please stop looking so I can buy the next one that comes up, ta. From having spent the last month or so trawling for a tidy m sport, you have to move pretty quick when they pop up.

  • I'm slowly realising that, hence the interest in is300's. Had my heart set on a manual 6 speed but that makes an already hard job impossible, so have got my head around an auto.

What years/shape are you looking at?

  • Post-2008 petrol auto, m sport, 325/330. Preferably not grey/black but I’ve had to let that go to preserve some shred of optimism. 7.5k will do it if I’m quick I reckon but still hoping for one somewhere in the south west I can pounce on for 5.

  • C-class
Jaguars come in estate and RWD

IS300 sounds a really good idea. You can get a supercharger kit for it which gives it another 100hp or so

  • the approved car for SE6 is a Dacia

  • Holden ftw

    Ford >>>

    Easy. See.

  • I'm not doing 200 mile motorway runs out to Devon in a Dacia, sorry.

This is as left field as RWD estates go I think

  • The 330 motor / auto trans is a delightful combo. I like the look, but the m sport stuff just makes the ride annoyingly crashy - irritating on longer journeys. Got to say I was surprised how little room there is in the back too!

  • Yeah, when I spot them out and about they do look pretty small really. I don't plan on sitting in the back any time soon though. I'm coming from a (much loved!) Volvo S70 which is big in all the wrong ways (cavernous but impractically shaped boot, long of nose and arse) so am ready for some compactness. Ride crashiness I've heard a lot, but I'm a slave to the a e s t h e t i c.

  • Are there any other obvious RWD estate cars, post 2000 other than the below?

  • That is ridiculous, utter porn - also too good to not embed. As an aside the collecting cars podcast is great. Have been watching a much cheaper version on eBay.

Not in the biggest rush so think I'll try and wait for a good BMW 300i or Lexus is300. Quite like how the is300 is a bit different and more shooting brake looking than estate.

  • After a weekend in a hired auto Aygo, driving back from the airport in our E61 (525i) was a relief. It’s manual but crucially has cruise control (could be improved with a distance radar thingy) and 6th gear is right in the torque band at motorway speeds, so you waft along barely touching the pedals. The cabin is nicer than the equivalent 3 series and you can chat at normal volumes.
You might get a facelift for ~5 but budget for repairs!
