It’s possibly not too bonkers if the 29er was supposed to be balls out ridiculous and the 27.5 a bit more conservative. Maybe.
Normally I'd assume a 27.5 to have been designed for more hucky riding than a 29er.

Suspect the seat tube angel - steeper - and the head angle - slacker - and the stack - more of it - counters the longer reach.
You could level the same reach related query at the Stanton 27.5/29er hardtail where the Long 27.5 looks shorter than the standard 29er
