  • No no, I love it!

Would love to add one to the stable if I had more room!

  • Just had this back from Xtracycle :

"At this time, we are not able to say with confidence that the KickBack 3 works on the Surly Big Dummy. We've heard from Surly that what they are finding is that their oval tubing might not be the best fit since the KB3 is built for the round tubing of our frames. This could cause the KickBack 3 to damage your Surly frame which would be a shame.

We have heard from some Surly customers who have tried to get the KB3 to work on their Big Dummy and they were able to do so by padding the frame where the KB3 comes into contact. Since this is not a perfect fit, this would be a modification you would need to make a judgement call on. Xtracycle would not be responsible for any damage caused to your frame if you chose to take this route.

We recommend the Rolling Jackass center kickstand found here - http://www.rollingjackass.com/ - or an older Xtracycle KickBack 1 if you are able find it second hand.

  • I wouldn't waste time trying to hunt down a used KB1, it's utter garbage.

  • Is that a 2018 frame ? I've got the green one (2017) .
Xtracycle suggest that they can't guarantee a fit because of the following - 'Boom tube slightly more oval than strap/band. Perpendicular tube fits KB3 plate perfectly.'

  • Mine is a 2018 frame I would say, at least I got it this year! The Kickback 3 doesn't fit perfectly because of tubes of the Big Dummy, they are different – in this picture you see that it doesn't has the exact size:

  • Thanks for that Madhias - I'm assuming it's working ok ?

  • I have to disagree here, my kickback 1 works absolutely brilliantly on my big dummy, it's one of the huge redeeming features about the bike actually. Loading up shopping and kids is no drama whatsoever. If you can find one, definitely buy it, but unfortunately its highly unlikely you'll find one

  • That looks like it fits pretty well actually. The only bit I'd be worried about is the pressure from the lower half onto the tube, it's focussed on two points, although you have already protected it

You could probably fill the missing section of the bottom half of the clamp with something to spread the load if you wanted absolute certainty

The kickback 1 doesn't clamp to that bit, but when the stand is engaged the legs have a piece that meets the oval tube. But on the kickback 1 that piece is ovalised so meets it nicely (actually I think there was also a round tube option too)

  • I’ve only heard good things about the Kickback 1 so yes I’d get one if I could but there aren’t any out there as far as I know.

  • What was the issue that you had with it - I’ve only heard good things about it ?

  • Yes it looks like a good enough fit and I think something to ‘flesh’ the clamp out would be a good plan. I’ve sent the photos to the guy who will fit it ( simple job that is sadly way above my practical skills) and will see what he reckons. I’ve got a single kickstand at the moment and loading it up is a bit of a pain at times

Interesting! Maybe I'm thinking about the KB2? Which was the one that they designed the Space Cowboy for?

  • Getting some ply sides cut for our Bullitt by a family friend who does Ply Laser Cutting.

Does anyone have a DWG/CAD file of the side panels?

  • I have been looking for these dimensions to make my own sidepanel kit, until I came across this post on a german cargobike forum. Will likely just copy this in spring next year.

  • Long shot, but if anywhere can ....LFGSS can

    I do a spot of teaching, MA Fashion at RCA and there's an interesting industry project underway over the summer. 15 cross-discipline students (MW/WW, knit, footwear, accessories) have worked alongside 15 designers/developers from an industry team in collaboration. I've been contacted by one of the students looking to use a bike for the final presentation as follows;

For our presentation of 24th Sep, we are looking to use a bike. I've attached an image of what we are trying to replicate, (in some way.)
I was wondering if you had any connections that we could rent the bike from? It can be just a normal bike that we could customize to have a bin on.
We'd probably need the bike from the 20th - 25th September, (but dates can be flexible.)

If anyone has any leads, going on holiday, a bike getting in the way, demo-bike available, please let me know, it'd be much appreciated - am checking if a trailer would be suitable. They're a super bunch, and it's a great project.

  • Worst case, could you chuck a smaller bin on one of these?

  • Also afterwards could you chuck the hideous fork in the bin when you're done?

  • That fork is awesome. Might not be the prettiest but I'd love one on one of my bikes

  • ....what is it?! Not seen that conversion before - commercially available or custom?

You can get them from the bins outside the Austrian "Zentrum für Verkehrssicherheit", they're cargo forks used on their postal bicycles which have been used in crash test exercises.

  • Supersalad (tinakina?? recognise that anti crust propaganda 😂) I disagree! I like how they look and find them quite functional. Not as good as a proper cargo but a nice middle ground.

dammit I knew this would blow my cover, haha

  • one size to rule them all?
