Being speaker during hung parliament's and now a proper minority government has made his job very difficult. He's done it very well. I find the theatrics a bit much, but he's been consistent and fair. The ruling principle being that if there is a majority in the house for something, they should be able to express it.
Clearly, when one side has a majority this is easily done through the conventional routes, but when they don't, the conventional routes were always going to have to be altered.
I doubt his replacement will have a significantly easier task, but they will benefit from the practices he's put in place.
Oh I see. In that case, I reverse my sentiment!
