  • Looks very reminiscent of my Happy Hacking Keyboard (pro). Probably quite a bit cheaper too.

  • 65%

..gotta admit I had to look up what this even is.
Stumbled upon some online community where people are building their own custom boards and gotta say a) these guys are nuts and b) I now want one

  • Tell me about it.... I spent $260 on some fucking keys yesterday.

And same. I had never even really considered a mech keyboard a week and a half ago and look at me now... Love a pointless hobby that I can sink money into 😂

  • that's the bit that makes me always laugh.... keys being more expensive than the actual keyboards.

I'm guilty of it too having a few sets at ~200+

  • Which keyboard(s) are you using?
Ordinarily, I would not do it. Most of the keys are totally not up my street with their very bold colours and whatnot, but those Mercury keys are so up my street. Once I've figured out what kind of keyboard I want to build, I'll build it around those. Till then they shall remain sealed.

  • Code 87-Key (aka TKL/80%) MX Clear with MATT3O /DEV/TTY MT3 keycaps (currently) is my home keyboard. I game so needed a dedicated Fx row... otherwise I'd probably just have another of the below

Kono Nightfox is my work keyboard ( https://kono.store/products/nightfox-mechanical-keyboard ) with Halo Trues. I kept the caps stock on this as I really like them.

I also have a RC930-108 RGB ELECTRO CAPACITIVE KEYBOARD as a spare that I used for ages before the code 10.

    Attaboi!
So you did also opt for the golden rama key, yeah?

Just seen their site as well, now I really understand where all the overpaid designers are able to spend their money

  • I'd love to try a mechanical keyboard but going back to a non wireless keyboard seems like a big step back to me.

  • Get a wireless one then

    https://www.techradar.com/uk/reviews/corsair-k63-wireless

    I have a K70 (wired) and it's great

  • Nice! I like those keys.

Good to hear about the nightfox. I have a used whitefox with Kailh Bronze's arriving tomorrow so I can see if I like 65%.

@supersalad - yep. My interest in the Voyager disc made it a no brainer. Think the ETA is January, but at least they gives me time to work out what I want to build.

  • Putting aside that most of them look like they just need lowering and a sub to race around Essex at 2am on a Friday night, would something like a K63 be better to type on than my Apple keyboard?

  • would something like a K63 be better to type on than my Apple keyboard

Assuming you get on with mechanical keyboards. Not too helpful I know. I far prefer them, especially over laptop and apple keyboards. Some don't.

You can also turn off the glowing keys so they don't look quite so fast & furious

  • The guy didn't tell me that it had never been used or even opened. So a bit of a bargain at $100. These keycaps are indeed very nice. These Kailh bronze's aren't half clicky and loud. I love it. 65% is the perfect middle ground for me I reckon. 40% was too small.

  • that's a fantastic deal! I've never tried the bronze's ... didn't even know the fox's came with them. It's 100% my fav keyboard

  • Yeah, I don't see it listed. Unless it was on the first run...? I've no idea.

  • Has anyone got a B350 ATX psu knocking about? I lent my one to someone and now it doesn't spin up the fan or power anything.

    Tia!

  • I assume that I was the last person to find this out but did you know PCI-E ports are cross compatible? I.E. a PCI-E X4 card will work in a 'full-sized' PCI-E x16 slot?
I found it out from this excellent video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrXwe21biJo

(Come for the useful video, and stay for the guys open university haitcut and glasses combo)

Anyway it was useful news to me as It mean I can use my spare Fusion-io Scale2 875gb PCI-3 x4 card as an SSD. Previously I didnt think it was possible as my MoBo only has two PCI-E x4 slots, one of which as my WiFi card in and the other is covered by my dual slot GFX card. I just used the 2nd of my PCI-E x16 slots (meant for SLI/crossfire GFX card setups) as a PCI-E x4 slot and bingo! I have a blazed fast PCI-E SSD for free!

  • Yeah, they just keep adding more lanes basically... it’s been the same instruction set all along, basically.

Glad you got some fast storage in your life. It’s a small pleasure but a pleasure none the less.

  • Anyone got a surface and has a proper keyboard to make it into an actual laptop. I find the flip on the back impossible sometimes. And to save buying a new laptop I'm thinking of getting oke but reviews are mixed.

Not sure what you mean about the flip on the back? I had a Surface Pro 4 with the type cover/keyboard.
That's the only option available to you I think (happy to be corrected, sold mine on here a couple of years back), and I found it a decent keyboard.

  • Hadn't seen that. Reviews certainly mixed.
They have a £70 used/like new from Amazon though.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B01N13TX2J/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

Get that and if it's shit or heavy/clunky just use Amazon returns as that'll be pretty hassle free?

fwiw, I came to the same conclusion as you.
I thought the Surface was really superb kit. Slick and well made, but I replaced it with a Dell laptop in the end, mainly because I wasn't ever using it as a tablet so decided a 'proper' keyboard would be useful.

  • Exactly where I'm at, however u occasionally make use of the tablet. Plus hardware wise it's fine so I'm hesitant to sell.

Good point, Amazon are evil but great for hassle free returns.

  • Any recommendations for a pair of smallish stereo speakers of reasonable quality for desktop use? Music, not games.

Budget less than £100, really just want something slightly better and more practical than the Logitech or something I have now, which has tinny plastic speakers on the desktop, plus enormous subwoofer in the way of my feet, which I don't turn on because it would annoy the neighbours.
