Lightweight tent recommendations?

Hubbas are overpriced, and a tent footprint is almost never worth it. Look at Tarptent or 3F for much better tents for the money.

My partner is planning a 6 week tour next summer taking two kids (probably in a double trailer) so is on the lookout for a light, 3 person tent that packs small. She wants to be able to bring all luggage inside of its wet and for security so a porch would be useful I think.

She's looking at a Hubba but post above makes it look like there might be better options? Forum wisdom greatly received!

Love my Tarptent Scarp 2. Loads of room inside it, and the fly covers the inner, unlike the aforementioned Hubba.

I've been really pleased with this, for the price it's very well made, used it on a recent wild-camping trip, goes up in minutes, very sturdy, not stand-up headroom but definitely not claustrophobic. I really rate Decathlon's ultralight tents. I've got the 3 man version, which is perfect for 2.

The first one I bought survived around 10 years of loads of rainy weeks camping before the waterproofing gave up, although the tent was still sound with no rips/seam issues which I was impressed with considering the abuse it got. I replaced that with the Vango Banshee which tore at the guy rope seam on the first trip so then promptly bought a Decathlon ultralight again.

I have a Moment, the original one. Tarptent seem rare in the UK. Anyway, it's a nice tent. The fabric grey makes everything lighter and feel spacious, it's well made and the best bit is that there is loads of opportunity to fiddle and modify it in different ways.

Has anyone used the Lanshan 1 tent?
Just wondering if it is possible to use a tarp pole rather than a walking pole to pitch it. Will it be strong enough?
And I guess I will have to bodge something to attach at the top end of the pole to spread the force and stop it from poking through the fabric?, like a walking stick ferrule, unless there is something specific for that.

Those plastic caps that are put on top of steel bars during construction work are meant to be pretty good for this.

Now to find out if a tarp pole would be strong enough as the tent has got the inner and fly sheet.

I seem to own one of these - I bought it from @ghostface who seems to have gotten a custom pole made - it looks like a fairly normal tent pole and works well.

Tent is great by the way! Super fast to put up and take down, and the inner mesh tent is perfect for pitching on its own in warm weather.

Yes tarp pole will be fine. If you look on eBay there’s someone making custom carbon poles for a very good price. I have one and rate it.

Does anyone have experience with the MSR Gear Shed? On paper it looks great but part of me thinks a 3 person tent (rather than a 2 person + extension) would be better.

Currently considering an MSR Mutha Hubba and Gear Shed or a Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 3.

I’d still rather have a Pyramid tent. Look up Asta/Aster tents on Ali express, well reviewed and excellent value.

This Terra Nova tent looks good at £130

Must be loads more little tents out there. Any recommendations? Sub £150.....

This is a pretty common design. There are Coleman and Decathlon options that are almost identical and with a bit of luck you can grab one <£100

hooped bivvi is horrible
buy one of these, and an inner tent if you feel like it (I never use one). they're great.
