  • i like the endura road 2 or waterproof socks

  • ordered, thanks!

  • Hey friends, need some advice. I just switched to MTB shoes for commuting (specialized recon 1's, which, btw, I really like so far) and my endura waterproof overshoes aren't gonna fit over the fat tread on the bottom of these without exploding. I've also got size UK11/EU46 feet and skinny ankles, so the GripGrab neoprene ones I ordered which do fit on the shoes are baggy as fuck round the leg. Devastating. Mainly just need them to be waterproof, I'm not scared of the old winter sock/cling film combo to keep warm but I hate putting on wet shoes to go home, especially when it's cold. Been looking at the Sealskinz overstock ones, anyone tried them with fatty MTB shoes? Thanks y'all

  • Whatever you do or buy water will always run down your legs and into the overshoes and shoes of your choice. Live with it, it is just an unavoidable part of cycling. Neoprene overshoes with a rear velcro closure limit the speed of ingress, cheap ones are no worse than expensive, but keep your feet warm(ish). Buy a second pair of shoes, by the time the first pair have dried out the second will be seriously soggy.

  • Check this out, it might be useful prior to your ride...

Must have something similar on your side of the pond.

  • Any recommendations for a waterproof overshoe for mtb/touring shoes that basically have a flat sole? Most are designed for a front and back raised section of sole but they will be destroyed in 5 mins of hike a bike.

  • No idea, but I do have a pair of waterproof boots that take SPD (road cleats) and will be better in every regard, so that's my recco.

Size 46 if that's any good to you.

  • Sealskins waterproof sock

  • Army surplus shops sometimes have goretex shoe liners/socks. They tend to come up quite small though. I think we paid 10-15 quid, they were more like socks though.

  • I suspected that may be the case (waterproof socks/liners).
It’s for a multi day tour (badger divide) with my girlfriend. Will have waterproof socks, but more about keeping shoes dry if possible.

  • Waste of time

  • I'd be more inclined just to use Belgian bootie type deal to keep muck off the shoes.

My concern for Scotland trips is using flat shoes for MTB stuff as they don't dry anywhere near as fast as road shoes. I guess that's where having warm socks comes in.

  • Even with overshoes, you are going to get wet shoes eventually, and they won't dry whilst camping. Much better to have a system for still being able to wear wet shoes comfortably.

We didn't pack waterproof socks recently on a wild camp on Dartmoor (what were we thinking), so resorted to using our 'pack-it-out' bags as liners. Girlfriend was much happier with putting wet shoes back on, and her feet stayed dry and importantly warm.

  • Does anyone know which model the thinnest and shortest Sealskinz are? Midfoot means overshoes, etc. don't really work and I want to get some to try out on road ultras for cold/wet feet so I don't have to use shopping bags or similar.
