With IKEA the carcasses are ok but they lack some fine tuning especially on wall hung units. Doors etc are ok although I have had a couple of jobs in the last couple of years where I've been asked to make custom shaker or plain doors to go on an IKEA kitchen because the customer was not happy with the finish (there was nothing technically wrong with the doors / drawer fronts just the standard of finish didn't meet the customer's expectations). The plinth boards on IKEA kitchens are shit house, they are just poor quality extruded plastic and are prone to discolouring. Also if you want a guarantee with an IKEA kitchen you need to use their fitters which adds £££ and is a bit of a lottery.
Wren are good but pretty expensive compared to DIY kitchens. I have had issues with their doors etc but they always replace them no questions asked. You used to be able to get their design service (which is "free") and they'd give you the drawings that you could then use to specify other kitchens but unfortunately they've cottoned on to this and will no longer give you the complete drawings.
