  • I really rate mine.
The cadence reporting being a bit rubbish (have external sensor so no issue.

Also huge flywheel is nice, just need to remember to go in the small ring at the front for high wattage intervals, otherwise you can effectively coast for the next 30s.

  • Dipping my feet into the world of smart trainers / zwift- what an exciting amount there are!

Definitely shopping in the budget area - anything beating a Tacx Vortex for £179? Or a Tacx Flow for £199?

I see similarly priced products from BKool (Smart Go) but then not much up until you get to the cheapest Direct Drive units at over twice the price.

  • Blimey, everybody's at it

    Stages launches Stagesbike

  • Stages one looks like it might attack if you got too close

  • Dunno looks a bit sub for that....

  • It's actually not that awful if you're in a relationship with another Cyclist and you both have training needs but different setup positions.

  • Oh, and it's gonna be all the rage because Peleton is worth $8B

  • Is it just me that finds all these new ragey spin machines super distasteful? Just ride a damn bike and get some skills and fresh air whilst you’re at it...

  • How have we got to a point when the Wattbike Atom is basically the cheapest complete trainer option?

  • "the electro-magnetic flywheel is capable of handling 1,400 watts"

Is it a training bike made for children ;-)

  • Surely swapping your own bike in and out of a direct drive trainer is a lot easier than changing the position on one of the full bike setups every time the other partner wants to train?

  • It takes less than 30 seconds to change something like a wattbike’s position if you know the settings.
    On a trainer:
Taking a bike off the trainer, putting the wheel back on, taking it back to the garage, bringing partner’s bike inside, taking the wheel off partner’s bike, putting it on the trainer, change software account, connect devices, recalibrate and ready to ride.

Whereas I am happy to do this, my partner definitely can’t be arsed to do this every time, and just wouldn’t ride.
And I couldn’t really be arsed to do it for her, so I have 2 hammer trainers....

What if you don't get on with the same saddle? Need different crank lengths?

  • It's actually not that awful if you're in a relationship with another Cyclist

    are you talking about us?

  • We could never agree on a saddle.

  • Most nation’s track teams and most gym goers seem to do ok with generic wattbike cranks and saddles...

  • If I was inclined to spend 3 grand on one of those bikes, I wouldn't be settling for a stock saddle.

  • I am actually gonna advocate training bikes. Since moving to NY riding outside all year round is literally just not possible. The cost of the Wahoo bike versus the Peloton bike is actually really good value, seeing how dumb a fancy spin bike is from a technical stand point. The Wahoo bike pretty damn clever from a real simulation point of view. When the majority of the cycling population here spend 4 months a year riding exclusively inside, I totally get the appeal.

  • Oh I agree, Specialized Power saddle and speedplays on everything.

The sharing of stationary bike assumes you have a saddle that’s ok for all users and same pedal system.

  • I’ve actually been thinking about a Wattbike Atom (reconditioned) which seems very good value compared to the others.

Not as feature stacked as the new bikes, but 35-50% of the price.

  • Yeah, guess it depends on whether you just wanna smash yourself or if you want to simulate riding a bike over different terrain and making it 'as realistic as possible.' If I was trying to do the latter I'd without a doubt get that Wahoo - looks very cool - but obviously you pay for it. Not something I'm interested in though - I am really happy with my Kickr. I'm not trying to fool myself. I know I am riding indoors....

However, I will say that something like the Wahoo bike would've been great three years ago when I was getting ready to do Cent Cols. I couldn't really prep myself for being in an uphill riding position for an 1 hour+ in the South East. I could have on the Wahoo bike...

  • So far I'd only been using it on sim mode, mucking about on Zwift, Bkool and Virtugo. Today I thought I'd try a workout, so introduced myself to the hell that is erg mode D:

  • Yeah, it's a hell of a pill the first time isn't it. Especially if you forget to calibrate before riding and it resists as if your FTP is 5% higher...

  • Also when you don’t pay attention and your cadence starts dropping, and you end up in a cadence spiral of death...
