  • Do you remember which Model it was? The ones we had liked online looked a little flimsy when we checked them out in the store

  • I got mine from Germany, UK is one of the last countries where everything still has to be soaked in flame retardants.
Also can recommend Stouby from Denmark.

  • Me? Probably not your style but we went with the Ektorp, I think the oldest one in their lineup.
Comfy, durable and louche in grey. The removable cover is a bonus but we haven’t needed to take advantage of that option as the cloth resists stains.
Everything we get from IKEA I use glue or loctite on when assembling.

  • Thanks for the replies, especially the loctite tip, have a couple of wardrobes to assemble over the weekend!

  • Any of these suitable? I have previously spec'd the No213 and No302L over dining tables.

  • Does anyone have any sofa recommendations? Nothing too fancy, but also no IKEA preferably? Does anyone have experience with made.com stuff, I don’t really trust them with such a big purchase. Like their designs though.

Conran at M&S worked for me last time. Got a Conran Reynolds which I like (not in the colour below)
Not fancy but not cheap either. RRP was £800

  • Go slow and pay attention to the instructions, they actually are useful.
    cheers

  • We’ve got a Made convertible sofa which we’re quite happy with. I suppose stitching could be better, but it’s more than good enough. And comfortable for sleeping too, according to our guests.

    Best ever sofa description.

  • Thanks. Nice plants, too! I am looking for a chaise longue style corner sofa.

  • We have a couple of Made.com items, they look nice and are a bit more solid than the IKEA equivalent but they’re still flat(ish) pack. The finishing is a bit rough and the precision of the self-assembly joints isn’t great.

We also have a sofa workshop sofa (customised 4-seat Lady May), which is beautifully made but cost more than our car. Not sure I could bring myself to spend that on a sofa again, even though it’s the main sitting device in our house!

  • Get something decent 2nd hand

  • Anyone need a nice chair?

  • We would like a fitted clothes wardrobe over a wall (one section on each side and one over a closed chimney breast) any recommendations? Ideally looking for sliding doors 😊 Did anyone managed to do a good DIY with flat packs from Ikea or similar?

  • @frankohara I did something maybe similar. Be good to get a picture of the space you're working with - might get some better advice then

  • @andos great! I will try to send you some images and measurements tonight

  • @andos sent you a DM with all the information. Let me know what you think

  • Meh. Uninspired of Cambridgeshire here... Looking for a couple of armchairs to replace a now knackered sofa. Need to be child-proof (ish) as three kids 6 and under. Looking for modernish style to fit with house decs, but we have a big chesterfield sofa also. Anyone with inspiration? The very thought of Ikea depresses me (which seems to be the majority suggestion). Am I just being too anti?

  • Have you considered second hand? Will be easier to tolerate wear and tear. I got my sofa from here

  • Second hand is not an issue for me. Some cool stuff on there alright (love the space invader drinks cabinet in the reviews - not sure I'd have got away with it though). I may waste some time trawling through similar sellers tonight. Ta very much.

  • What kinda budget?

  • Modest: £600-700-ish the pair. Prefer less, obviously. But could stretch that a bit. Could do a small sofa again. But I'm more of an armchair + feet on the table kind of person.

I thought I was too until our very expensive pair of Ekornes chairs started giving me back problems - I believe it was because there was basically only one 'correct' way to sit in those things. I've since found that a shlumfy couch with lots of pillow options is better for me.
    YRMV of course.

  • Urrgh. Yes, that's a point. Getting old(er) and all that.
