Need advice on Boschetti Rino TT

Posted on
  • Anybody out there who can hand me some advice? I own a Boschetti Rino TT with all wrong components. Would love to build it back to its former glory. Any advice on which components I should look for would be much appreciated.

  • Wow, how could anyone put just normal drops on a frame like that!?

Do you have any more pictures of the original spec? Looks like there's a bit of work today, but the frame looks in great nick!

  • I'm afraid no additional pics of the original spec. I'm scratching my head...

  • I reckon your groupset is going to be all Campagnolo, being as it's an Italian frame. I can see Campagnolo Delta brake calipers and I reckon those levers are non-aero levers with the backs drilled so the cable comes out the back and routed through the bars. Bars are on the tip of my tongue - I wanted to say 3TTT Moscow, but it's not them, plus the ends are probably cut down. Campag aero bottle is obvious.

  • Okay, I got the Campagnolo Biodinamica bottle...so far so good.

Do you guys think the handlebars could be Cinelli LA84?

  • Do you guys think the handlebars could be Cinelli LA84?

It looks like yours have much more hooked ends on them than the LA84. I think I have a set of the ones you need in my loft and I keep forgetting to check what they are. Unfortunately they’re not mine, so I can’t sell them.

The saddle looks like a studded Selle Regal.

  • okay, if you can't sell the handlebars to me how about lending them ;-) And yes, would be great if you could check what they as/when in the attic.

I've got a Boschetti branded Selle Racing Pro on the bike at the moment. Seems non period and looks a bit poncy but hesitant to remove it. What do you think?

  • I showed this to a work pal who raced in the early 90s and knows his old Campagnolo. The bars I mentioned are on loan from him. He thinks:
-C-Record 1990-1992-ish road cranks and rear mech
-Exact model Delta brakes depend on internals but they’re not not Croce D’Aune
-Bio dynamics bottle as you say
    -probably C-Record seat pin
-Single brazed on lever, probably C-Rec
    -SGR pedals
    -3TTT stem (probably)
-Record or C-Rec headset. Record had a black stripe?

  • Hi there,

C-Record 1990-1992-ish road cranks and rear mech

Record rear derailleurs from 1990+ have a different / more modern shape.
The one on the (old) picture is a C-Record 2nd generation, 1987~1989 I think.

Record or C-Rec headset. Record had a black stripe?

In 1992, yes (like the Off Road groupset) but not before.
It's probably a C-Record like the rear derailleur (it's quite impossible to tell from the photo if it's not, but a Chorus or a Athena).

  • 1987~1989 I think.

    Yes, probably more likely.

  • These are my 3TTT Moscow bars, so maybe it is those after all. If it’s those bars, it’s probably a matching 3TTT stem since the finish looks the same. Cinelli 1A has a slightly whiter finish to the ano and I think you’d be able to see it in the photo against the brighter finish of the 3TTT bars.

  • Wow! Great job!!

  • ITM citta di bassano 👌
That said, you can probably make the handlebars turn a bit anti-clockwise I think.

  • Thats incredible!

  • Wow that’s good.

Are the bars Moscow 3ttt as per conversation above? Been looking for something similar.

  • Frame looks to be built by Vanni Losa.

  • No, they are ITM Cita di Bassano stem and handlebar

  • You are right there. Having said that the issue really is the angle 'of attack' of the saddle :-)

  • Lovely :)

  • Amazing project. 3 years of patience !

  • It's very pretty, apart from the angle of the saddle. It seems to have been in the same position in the picture which appears to date from when it was new.

I guess the problem (and it certainly would cause problems to my urino-genital system!) is that the micro adjusting seat pin does not have enough adjustment because of the odd angle of the top part of the seat tube. If you use an old fashioned Brooks type saddle clip on a plain seat post you could have 360 degrees of movement. Although this would be non original, at least it would make the bike rideable.

Presumably this machine must be one of the very last TT bikes intended to be used without clip on bars.
