I'd have a check in your lease, you may have the right to refuse any works.
Realistically you won't get that far objecting to it through council planning unless they're planning on doing something out of the ordinary. Talking to downstairs would be the best way to get any changes through, the earlier the better.
Our neighbour is proposing an extension and has asked us if we have any objections. He’s a twat. I’d like to make sure we don’t agree to anything, even in principal, that could give us problems down the line.
Our bedroom is currently over his bathroom. We can hear a fair bit but it’s a bathroom so not much in the way of conversation and his tenants don’t spend much time in there. In the new plans we’ll have his kitchen / living room under our bedroom. Not ideal. Suggestions to put to him regarding sound insulation are welcome.
The only other thing I can think of is poor access if we need to do work on the roof or something. Can we scaffold off his extension roof?
Anyway, here’s the plans and proposed. Hive-mind troubleshooting welcome. I don’t want to have to reach for the saveloy a year down the line.
For the record, we’re both lease holders with a 3rd party freeholder. He’s asking their permission as well as our consent, but I’m not sure we have much actual pushback if we don’t want it... tbh I don’t mind the idea, noise issues being solved.
