VAR couldn't do anything as the whistle had allegedly gone. This wasn't a VAR issue, this was just good old fashioned bad refereeing, which there is still plenty of scope for despite the new tech.
Grealish's theatrics robbed you of a point there
Didn't really see it as theatrics, he had to go down to get the ball away and was back on his feet before it was in the net, never even looked to claim anything from the ref. Perhaps it's his reputation that did for him.

Dear lord, Kevin Friend is the shittest ref in ever. How he can card Grealish for a dive after he is pushed in the back, clattered into by Cahill and still gets the pass away before falling is beyond me. Then VAR fails to do anything about it.
Villa were shit, but to be robbed of an equaliser by shoddy refereeing stinks.
