My method of ignore detection is to post a pithy but mildly humourous reply to the forumenger in question and if they don't answer in 30 mins they're officially dead to you.

Edit: the response time is relative to internal time, for instance today I'm bedbound having not left the house for two days because of epic tonsillitis and a full blown fever. 30 minutes is an infinity. Other wise, this may extend upwards to say a day or so. Or their last login if you're some kind of cyber Mandela.
