I'd love to see what people have for this (thread derail - apologies). Trying to find a method for taking a 15" laptop to and fro from work. Not on my back and ideally not rear panniers.

re: laptops, I do:
— Wald 137 or 139, prolly the latter if you want it to lay flat
— Porcelain Rocket basket dry bag (I live in the mid-atlantic US, water resistant doesn't cut it for the type of thunderstorms we get regularly)
— rectangle of cut up old sleeping pad for padding between bag and basket.has worked pretty well, kept the computer off my back (which is what I was doing before), and kept it alive and functioning.

Yeah I was hoping for Wald but the 137 isn't large enough flat, and even if it were, it'd impede the shifters too much with my setup. Simplest but most expensive solution is looking to be getting a separate machine for home work.

Please let's not derail this hubba hubba thread with laptop chat - https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/337338

Absolutely, might as well note that this thread is my regular work reading and its all amazing - please keep it up!

Thanks guys. And I don't mind the chat. It is all food for thought

I bought a lightweight cyclo cross frame and forks. Thanks @JesperXT for picking it up.
It is for semi integrated headset and 1 1/8" forks but I intend running it with ec44 bottom cup as I have a pair of really nice tapered Enve forks I need a home for. It could end up being a super light bike and I hope it will inspire me to get into shape and start racing cross at some point again. If not I hope at least it will be fun :)
If it works it might open up for converting frames to run a disc front brake and tapered forks on outdated frames. We will see if it is useful for anyone.
Frame kit was £40 Inc headset and forks so no biggie if it doesn't work.

Could be a funny ride with risers just like my Vitus !

Maybe eventually, but I am dying to try my Ritchey Venturemax in this

what was it originally?

You never know with alu frames. Could have been a fridge or scaffolding maybe.

Had an ok day in the workshop.
It started out great as I got my new TIG welder set up perfectly. Pulse settings suited me real good.
Then onto re brazing the filets I did last time. It had been a while since I have been on acetylene. It meant everything got a bit messy but I got it sorted pretty good today. It looks meh but I reckon it will be an easy file. But then I decided to retap the BB shell. Fuck that shit! It just didn't bite.
I have ordered some new taps for my BB tap tool. Hopefully that will sort it out.
I am going to get some heat sinks sorted so this doesn't happen again

What's up with the bb shell? The heat from tigging the stays distort the shell?
-
• #2943
Either that or locally hardened from the TIG heat. My BB tool hasn't been used much but I have ordered new taps for it. Hopefully that helps

I see, take it this would be because things get so much hotter with tig? Ie shouldn’t be so much of an issue if brazing to the bb shell?
The threaded shells I’ve used thus far have been lugs, the shell I fillet brazed to was a massive chunky ebb thing. Next frame will be a threaded shell that I’ll be fillet brazing to so trying to understand where I might run into issues.

I can imagine the heat required to weld that thicc plate to the bb could've warped it
-
• #2946
Yes, but I just did my MTb without heat sink and that was fine with a 39mm OD shell so I thought this 40mm OD shell would be okay

You def wont want a heatsink for fillet brazing or silver soldering.
When TIG welding the shell you get quite a lot of heat locally and as you have cold bit else where it warps.
Heat sinks prevents this but they are either expensive or time consuming to make so I thought I'd get away with it. -

Yeah, I discovered those stem jigs I made act as big heatsinks and it wasn't very good.

As framebuilding seems to become mainstream I have decided to step away from that shit and move back to buying.
My real fetish has always been early 2000s cyclo cross frames anyway.

Outrageous cantis, pls
I've been thinking about this too, and maybe somthing that looks like an upside down SQR-Bagman, and has a neopreen sleve hanging from it would (if the steel rod for the Bagman is springy enough) would be enough for dampening road bumps. Also it would make your bike look more like a shark.
