I see your point but ratting and guarding are the two main reasons why cats and dogs have become domesticated over the millennia.
The animals get a sweet deal out of it too, by and large. Food, medical care, shelter, etc

Oh yeah absolutely, in fact mice was the only reason why I got Patch at the first place, I have no shame in saying to people that I had no intention of loving her half as much as I do now but my mind was clear on 1 thing - she catches mice for me, I keep her warm and her belly full.
Obviously I failed on this completely as she treats my flat as the dead mice HQ for the entire neighbourhood and she rules my life! 🤗🤗🤗
This little fucker is also a money vacuum - she has had 2 operations each costing a lot! And those vets visits and taxi fares!! Thanks fuck for insurance.
My point is, as long as people at least treat it as a business deal with their animals, then I am OK with it, but some people just don’t... 🤷🏻♀️

Interesting article; thanks.

Yeah no clue tbh, cats are not very hard to take care of either!
Just think one of the kids got a cat without realising it might not suit their household. -

Got dragged in to collecting a cat, that had been visiting/staying in a garden at a woman house in Muswell Hill for three days. The cat is lovely and friendly, but the woman is allergic. Stuck the cat cat in to a cage with no fuss and sat in the car for a trip to the vet nearby.
So the cat has a chip but the chip data is wrong, different colour of cat and breed. But the chip number came up on the vets system. Contacted the owners, who were 6 miles away, and they would come and collect the cat. Three days and didn't notice your cat is missing?

Who said they didn't notice?

The cat owners to the lady that called them from the vets, it was really odd as the cat owners said they knew me (well girlfriend and I). No idea who they were from the name and address, and if we knew them, we would know the cat so why would we take the cat to the vet to get the chip read to find the cat's identity/owners. It was all so odd.
The odd bit was the chip number coming up as a different cat on the chip record company, but the cat had visited the group of vets (medivet) before and the record the vets had matched the fluffy monster we had.
The cat was such a chilled fluff ball and all he wanted was to be stroked and given attention.

Sounds very strange, did you get the impression they were elderly?

Ain’t they the same thing? The ball is getting bigger and the cat is getting slimmer... win win!

I tried to play with her with her own fur ball - she wanted to eat it and after having a taste of her own fur - she had a disgusted face on her...
Does this mean she smells?

Gigi being all bendy, weird, and lovely.
Currently trying to convince three other half we should adopt another cat. I've seen one that had been waiting for a home for 3 months! Likely because he is a black cat and people are stupid. Any way, tips on guilt tripping the other half into agreeing to a second cat, and introducing the possible second cat are welcome (do not say keep in separate rooms, we don't have separate rooms, the perils of boat life).

How old is Gigi and the other cat?
I think if room is an issue and if you are 100% sure you want new cat, bring some clothes / towels that have Gigi smell to leave with new cat and bring some clean clothes to rub on new cat to get their smell for Gigi to get used to?
When the day comes, let them fight out!
This is probably a very Chinese thing to do as I see it a lot with Hong King cat people - they’d lock new cat(s) in a cage and use towel to half cover the cage for a couple of weeks / then leave the cage open for a while after that until new and old cats get along eventually. Rooming is also an issue in Hong Kong everywhere...
PS: when I say a cage, I mean one that is as large as possible.
As for getting other half to accept new cats - get it and say there is no return? 🤷🏻♀️

Gigi is 15 months old, the little boy cat is 12-18 months old.
I think I'll get the other half to come with me, just to look at possible new cat, definitely not too fall in love with him and bring him home. Unless he really says no, then I will make it my mission to find him a home.

We’ve realised Hendricks just wants to be at the same height as either me or the wife when we’re working from home. He was constantly meowing and jumping on the table.
Now, He’ll happily spend most of his day on this chair whilst I work at the table.
Best. Work. Friend.
Bonus pic of Shaun the mowbot in the background too...

Whenever my wife is studying in her wee office, the cat gets up into the table with her and plonks herself down, taking up half the desk. Every time.

Can I suggest you get a kitchen stool?
He’s still here... proven 100% effective.

Sadly some people think animals have no feelings and they are tools of sorts - cats for rats / mice, dogs for guarding their places etc.
It is sad but not a lot anyone can do... 😕
