why is alfine 8 better than 11? I am a hub gear n00b. The 8 speed Alfine Di2 feels really good!

Then main complaint I've heard about Alfine 11 hubs is their leaking of oil. Alfine 8 is packed with grease rather than oil, so no such worries

Alfine 11 is oil bath and has tendency to shit it’s oil out in different temperatures or changes in atmospheric pressure - complete crap.

8 is greased instead.

I have the same approach to cooking. Instead of oil, ghee/goose fat.

My main complaint with the Alfine 11 I had is that it failed completely after 1 year of city commuting. I had the innards replaced under warranty but haven't ridden the replacement at all, it's in my cellar. I'd get rid of it, but don't want to lumber anybody else with a hub I wouldn't ride myself.

I think the urbanrider, which I think is my favorite, looks pretty much like road bike with flat bar and hub gears. I think you guys know whether you can fit an alfine on a road bike frame, or do you have "strech" the frame to make it fit?

OLD on the alfine 11 (and 8, I think) is 135mm.

Yeah Alfines are 135mm

Nexus is 130mm

If you have no intention of using a disc brake get the red band nexus 8 it has mostly the same guts as the Alfine 8.

There are Nexus 8 with disc brake mount which is 135mm
