  • I’m no Brompton expert, but I’ve recently completed 5k London kilometres on mine, including expeditions to the Epping hills and whatnot, and if I was buying again I’d go wide-range three-speed with a slightly bigger than standard chainring—the derailleur is bobbins. And fine-tuning ratios, which is all that gadget is really good for, isn’t worth the bother.

  • Personal, I think the 6 speed works beautifully.

I fancy a Rohloff on our electric now

  • E-14 surely doable with a bit of hacking

  • Does the 2 to 3 speed conversion work with the new rapid fire style shifters?

  • I changed my chainring for a big one and it is so so much better.

  • No hacking really required! Just cash... 🙁

  • It should do...

  • Thought E-14 only worked with Bosch?

  • Sorry, yes, E14 does.

Just a Rohloff 14 would be no stress

  • blogger was getting frustrating, hopefully this will make life easier.. lots to come going forward!

  • Gonna hack my new 2 speed and report back, once I have the circlip obvsly... #nopressure

  • I like my 6-speed a lot, though I spend most of my time in gears 3,4, and 5. If I wanted to go simple/lightweight I'd probably go for 2- rather than 3-speed - the BWR gaps are a bit big for my liking without the derailer half-steps, and I could live with having to spin a bit more when racing for a train. I know someone who built a wheel with a Sturmey AM for his Brompton, and he seems very happy with it - if I came across one cheap I could be tempted.

  • BWR isnt for 3 speed, hence the BSR - smaller gaps, or use an SRF3 for even closer gaps

  • D'oh yes of course - had forgotten the BWR was only on the 6-speed. I thought all other Sturmey 3-speeds in production were direct drive in middle and +33%/-33% gears?

  • Kuosac bar on, tyres for later.

  • Wasted some time... Conti tyres do not fit with guards, glad I did the rear first!

The brake mounting doesn’t allow enough height

  • My newly modded M6R is great... I think I'm gonna keep the bars as they are, maybe just cut a couple of slots out of the ergo grips so the levers sit a bit closer... They're miles away at the moment... I will chuck the new style levers/shifters on soon...

Can't wait to get the Sugino 75s and the Blackspire chainring on, it's gonna look even sicker... Looks fantastic right now, the new rack and the easy wheels are fab...
