I like my 6-speed a lot, though I spend most of my time in gears 3,4, and 5. If I wanted to go simple/lightweight I'd probably go for 2- rather than 3-speed - the BWR gaps are a bit big for my liking without the derailer half-steps, and I could live with having to spin a bit more when racing for a train. I know someone who built a wheel with a Sturmey AM for his Brompton, and he seems very happy with it - if I came across one cheap I could be tempted.
D'oh yes of course - had forgotten the BWR was only on the 6-speed. I thought all other Sturmey 3-speeds in production were direct drive in middle and +33%/-33% gears?
