I have shimano RS685 brakes on my CDF, when descending, after heavy braking the front pads don’t seem to retract properly and squeezing the brake on hard a few times is needed to push them back (not ideal when trying to ride up the hill on the other side).
I’ve replaced the disc and the caliper, and the brake has been flushed and bled... if anything it’s worse.
Any ideas? Really pissing me off/concerning - got a big trip planned and don’t want to have issues.

Superstar kevlar. They are the same front and back as well.

Contaminated pads/rotor? Warped/Uneven wear rotor? Misaligned caliper?

I feel like I've checked all these. They are pretty much silent in the dry but squeal like mad when it's a bit wet.
Ill try all these again when I've got some time. Might get a dial indicator on the rotor.

No commute today so spent that time going full crazy on the bike.
Pulled pads, cleaned pistons, bled the system (might as well practice it now), refitted pads and everything was fine.
Also replaced rear pads after 4k km.
Fingers crossed for the next commute.
Thanks all for the tips.

Disc brakes often squeal when wet. It's a bit better if they are warm and wet, but that's the price for being able to brake.
Even the pros can't stop squealing when it's cold and wet. -

dab of oil on the side of the pistons

Sounds like sticky piston(s).
Remove pads and squeeze lever, careful not to pop the piston out!
Clean the sides of the pistons, push them back, then out, repeat cleaning until you see that both pistons are moving at the same rate.

It’s a new caliper.

Will try but should I expect to do this with a new caliper?

RS685 caliper do not have the best reputation (or was that the prior generation?) or possible 'flap' issue detailed here:

Yeah replaced with a deore, but that link looks promising though. Will investigate next week. Cheers.

In case anyone comes across the same issue as me:
With some research and communication with the Fulcrum importer in the UK, I have found out that Fulcrum lockrings used for the "AFS" system are part number RF1137272 (4-M1-101B) and can be ordered via your LBS. Bloody proprietary components. Even more annoying that they're not listed in the Fulcrum manuals anywhere

I did hear about peeps swapping out the calipers for Deore but never dealt with them myself.
Seems right due to the lack of banjo fitting which is an oversight from Shimano IMO, that and BH-59 hose, why would you use an outdated part?
Answer: Sell more shit innit when they go for banjo + BH-90 in their 'upgraded' new releases...

I have had the grub screw problem, but in my case it was only part of the issue. If your levers also have fore-aft play then the piston in the master cylinder needs replacing. Once I did that they've been great.
Oh and all disc brakes squeal in the wet.

Oh and all disc brakes squeal in the wet.
Embarrassingly loud? I feel like a tit when I pull them at ped crossings and when in residential areas.

Not really...

Mine don't... #justsayin

What kind of pads are you quiet types using?
-
• #5946
Resin, Shimano. Best for modulation and cheap as chips.
-
• #5947
I'll pick some up and give them a go.
-
• #5948
Ive always used resin for hydro/cable discs and the only squealy brakes were because of contaminated pads
-
• #5949
Ive ordered some shimano resin pads. Worth a try for 5 quid. Here's hoping for some quieter braking.

Give the rotor a sand and clean then make sure you bed the new pads in properly.
So Fulcrum centre lock hubs. Turns out they use a lockring which threads on to the outside of the hub, rather than the inside of the hub like a Shimano one. Some mention of it on this review of the Racing 5s
https://www.google.com/amp/s/roubaixcycling.cc/2016/09/10/fulcrum-racing-5-db/amp/
Does anyone know where I could buy a set of these wacky lockrings as I've purchased a second hand set of wheels which has come without...
