• I've got a Schwalbe Pro-One on DT Swiss 511 rim that holds pressure but always comes unseated below a certain pressure. I think I need to try a different tyre to determine if the one I have is the problem. Before I start messing around though, I wonder if it's worth riding it a bit with sealant in?

  • Moar tape.

Pretty sure the rim is the problem. DT seem not to have noticed that tubeless rims are supposed to have a detent to keep the bead on the shelf without air pressure.

  • Yeah that is daft. The tyre on the other wheel does stay seated though.

I don't understand the point of the 'moar tape' approach, but I will try it

  • Simply to create a tighter gap making the other less likely for the tyres to come off the rims.

  • This is my experience with the 411 rims too. Couldn't get the back to seat until I added even more tape. After that it was fine!

  • I've got two 9m rolls of 25mm Gorilla tape that are too wide for my purposes going spare. Free to a good home. Collect from Herne Hill.

  • Just tear it a little at the desired width and pull from there.

  • Blimey. That appears to have worked alarmingly well. Tyre not fully holding pressure, but I hope will do once sealant is involved.

  • I have been saying this about DT rims for a good while now. DT are not on the only manufacturer who fail to put those important bumps in place Velocity and Pancenti dont either but tyres can lock securely enough in place on these never the less. That will have something to do with the the size of the bead hook. DT Swiss bead hooks are small making the the problem worse.

  • normally I say this is a pinch flat. the hole or stone you hit may have just damaged the tyre and it failed at a later date but this is typical of pinch flats in tubeless tyres.

  • Maxalami kit. However the plug should always be larger the the hole you are fitting or you will require more than one plug. Your plug pushed out because it may actually be shit but it may actually not be shit but probably because it was too small for the hole. Yes you will make the hole bigger but that what you have to get your head around. Sadly your blaming the kit when you did not use it properly.

Also with plug never infalte to full pressure immediatley. Inflate with a hand pump to a pressure where the plug is not pushing out. After 24hrs try a higher pressure. Also carry a blade to cut doen the fat plugs so they dont catch.

  • I had similar when I clipped a cobble edge on a fancy speed bump thing. I had to reseat the tyre and all was fine although I couldn’t do this on the road and had a slow, low pressure, ride home.

  • Two layers of Gorilla tape on a Kinlin XR22, tyre (Hutchinson Intensive) appears to get up to pressure but there's no telltale "pop" of seating in the rim. Doesn't hold at higher pressure, with air clearly escaping from the valve hole (no sealant yet). Deflates overnight and the bead works its way back into the rim channel.

Add more tape immediately, or give it a go with sealant?

  • The valve hole is too big

  • Possible over tightening of the valve and distorting the rubber grommet?

  • Rim tape probably have a split at the valve hole. I'd rather redo than risking sealant in and still having to replace with all the messy stuff.
Top tips for making the hole: use something round and ideally warm the tip, make the hole pushing your way carefully to avoid splitting the tape, put sealant or glue in the rubbery part before inserting the valve

  • I have tightened it up pretty well. Could valve stem be borked?

  • Put some fucking sealant in it!

  • fucking put some fucking sealant fucking in it!

    ftfy

(fucking that for ya as per thread title)

  • :)

  • Could be a gap anywhere in the rim tape. You just tend to notice air escaping at the valve.

  • If it went up with a floor pump and held some pressure it’s most likely fine, some sealant will fix.

  • Is the DT Swiss 466d tubeless ready?

My google skills say both yes and no :(

  • In a similar vain to above, tried tubeless G-One All Rounds on my old Syncros (dt swiss) wheelset last night. Schwalbe tubeless tape and the tyre went up easy with a track pump. Set it to 70 psi and after a couple hours it went down to 20psi and stayed there.

Will sealant fix this? Or should I retape/double tape etc.
