Thinking about joining the Brompton club. Probably won’t ride more than a max of 8 miles one way. How many gears would people recommend and any where people could recommend I could test ride one in London?

Failing that, if you are passing St Paul's you could give my ageing, ratty AF Ti SS a roll around for a bit. SS has done me ok for 8 mile commutes over the last 10 years but if I were buying again now I'd go 2 speed (as I moved to the top of a hill and it feels like it's gonna snap every time I thrash it up there!).

I saw / heard of a few, insane.

A good friend did it fixed gear, why do we choose to make it so hard for ourselves!?

Around that there London you won’t need more than a 3sp. I live near Crystal Palace and I have an S2, tho I’m in line for one of Ryan’s 3sp conversion kits, whenever they show up. Mine currently has 13/16 sprockets, but I’m looking to go to 13/15/17 with a 50t crank cos I’m old and I spin a lot. You’d be welcome to give mine a spin if you need.

You're based in Bridgwater! In my London-centred view of the world, this had not occurred to me as a possibility. Despite the fact that I'm currently living near Macclesfield. Distance might be against us.

Any news on these? Got a M1E which I would like to convert to superlight 3 speed! ;)

Work is Bridgwater, home is a bit further west!
