Now I can't log in to the fucking thing as it logged me out and my password contains the broken letters. Presume this isn't likely to dry out and I'll just need to go to the shop tomorrow to pick a replacement up? Was sure I had a Bluetooth one somewhere. Must have chucked it in the move.

    oooohhh unexpected plot twist

    : ]

  • I pay postage of course. Insured, tracked, picked up, etc.

If you have the original box and wrap it up well it should be allright I think?

  • What could possibly go wrong?!? Chuck it in a suitcase... 😂

  • I've posted monitors before with less than great results. But in an original box I reckon it should work. I bet you can bang it around quite a lot before anything breaks

  • Is there a way to tell the 'using age' of a Mac? I know looking at the model year you can tell the how old the mac can be, but if it's been wiped clean completely, is the only way to judge how much use it has had from the battery count? I know even then it'd only give a very basic view as some people have their Macs plugged in more often than others.

  • If it has a few years of use, check the keyboard. My 's'-button is nearly gone, same with cmd

Also, apart from the contact points, does a modern laptop really age? No moving parts should mean a long life? So as long as the laptop looks nice and the battery hasn't had a million cycles it should be good?

  • I have a late 2011 MBP I want to sell, what info is the standard relevant stuff that you genius lot would need to give me a good idea of value, if you could?

  • https://www.sellyourmac.com ? I know it's a US site but should give you a fair idea once you do a currency conversion. Also consider that's the price you'd get from a reseller so you might get a little more for private sale (e.g. eBay - less, of course, ebay fees etc).

  • what info is the standard relevant stuff

the exact model and specs as seen in system information
    https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203001

I'd check eBay for sold items with the same specs, this gives you quite a precise idea what people are willing to pay.

  • Please can someone recommend somewhere to get a new MacBook Pro screen in London for my sister? The last one with a hdmi slot (2016 I think). Works fine but looks like it's had a drink spilt on it (it hasn't)

  • May just be the photo and forgive me if so, but just looks like it needs a good wipe?

  • @CYOA nope unfortunately not, tried that no end but it's definitely a problem from behind. Hard to capture it in the picture. Cheers though

  • No with those era ones I think it's the top layer that gets scratched and they all end up looking like they're just dirty.

  • @branwen will send her that cheers. She did mention'screengate'

  • Wowser - never heard of 'staingate' - nightmare.

  • Thought the issue rang a bell, hope it gets resolved quickly @bobble

  • Fwiw I've had my late 2014 screen changed twice (most lately Christmas last year) with this shit. Noone in the Apple store batted an eyelid

  • Are they still doing the free screen change? Wasn’t there a recall programme for that precise issue?

  • I have a bit of a problem, which I'm hoping the hive mind here might help.

I've an ID Card printer (Zebra ZXP Series 7) which I need to print to really quickly. And a lot. Unfortunately, Zebra don't have an OSX driver for their wonderful printer. My MacBook Pro can see it through USB, and knows it's a Zebra ZXP Series 7, but if I try to print through the Generic Postscript Printer it doesn't do anything. When trying to search for drivers, I get the message "unable to send data to printer" which is quite understandable since they don't have a driver.

My next step is to put Bootcamp onto my laptop to put Windows on and try this. My question is, will it work? And how hard is it to put Bootcamp onto my laptop. The issues are: a) I don't have the ability to back up my computer. b) how much HD space do I need for the partition c) Can I just download MS Windows from Microsoft and use that? d) is it difficult, as I've never done it before?

  • What’s the specs of your Mac? It’s not worth doing if your Mac is low specs and with small hard drive space.

Otherwise, it’s easy, you just need to buy a window license.

We usually do 50/50 petitions, but you can do less on the window side if you printing ID card is the only thing you need.

Alternatively, I’d probably consider buying the cheapest possible PC computer for printing your cards. A friend got her laptop for £150 and she was sort of happy with it.

    This.
    Just get a cheap Win10 laptop @Muppetteer.
