Having exactly the same problem (again). My first unit was replaced by Garmin for €80 (refurbished edge 1000).
Currently their offer is a new 1030 for €220. It is not possible to have a replacement edge 1000 as they do not receive refurbished 1000 units anymore.
I’ve requested a 830 instead of an 1030 as replacement, strangle enough the replacement fee remains €220.....
