Having exactly the same problem (again). My first unit was replaced by Garmin for €80 (refurbished edge 1000).
Currently their offer is a new 1030 for €220. It is not possible to have a replacement edge 1000 as they do not receive refurbished 1000 units anymore.I’ve requested a 830 instead of an 1030 as replacement, strangle enough the replacement fee remains €220.....

"We do not repair here in Garmin. We only replace the device. As per the pictures, your device needs to be replaced.
Based on the information you have provided we will need to book your Garmin device in for a replacement. As your device is out of warranty (purchased more than 24 months ago), we can offer to replace your device for a fixed replacement cost of £195.60."
