  • It's sort-of beyond me that some people are happily nitpicking about whether it's like 3.4 or 3.7 equivalents of soccer fields that are burning away every fucking minute.

People in charge in Brazil are actively exploiting the rainforests, and they openly say they will do this even more agressively in the future.
    It's a huge problem, mkay.
Everbody keeping themselves busy going mi mi mi mi and relativizing and pointing out this is nothing new etc. fucking be my guest, you're missing the point.

  • Missing the point is arguing that facts don’t matter. Seeing as you’re not too fussed by the details, maybe you missed the part where the radical right has been weaponising misinformation.

This isn’t a case of posting a photo from Thursday but saying it’s Friday. One of the main photos that went viral in this instance is from fucking 1989! When there’s a megalomaniac US President who claims that climate change isn’t real at every opportunity and that the mainstream press is full of fake news, the least we can do is pause and check our sources.

If a person is a climate change denier and they read an article that rightly points out that the viral wildfire photo is 30 years old, then that misinformation confirms their incorrect world view and only does more harm to the attempts of getting people to actually give a shit about climate change.
