  • Watching video tutorials on jumps/jumping whilst the rain howls down and thunder stalks the peaks. At least the ground will be soft tomorrow for Jump Fest ‘19 (shit edition).

  • video tutorials on jumps/jumping

Lesson one: NO LESS THAN 200mm TRAVEL!

  • Shhhhh!

  • Where have the mountains gone?

  • Are you braving it? We're having a duvet day!

  • Trying to raise MCF on the phone - if they have a coach free I’ll do a few hours on the jumps. If they don’t I’ll drink black coffee until maddened by the caffeine I go out anyway.

My reserve plan of taking the car round the Alps is a bit buggered by the cloud deck being at street lamp level here in Morzine.

  • I suspect every mtb coach for a 30 mile radius will be free today 😉 The hard part will be finding one with an impermeable jump suit that wants to head up the mountain with you. The rain is meant to get lighter through the day though...

  • No joy getting hold of MCF, I’m going to put on my pyjamas-impermeable and see how badly I regret it.

  • In the cloud now, visibility is going to be interesting

  • Fortune favours the brave

  • If I see him I’ll say hello

  • The weather is indeed a bit apocalyptic in this neck of the woods. We got caught out yesterday on the Col de Sanetsch. Road present and correct on the way up, on the way down not so much...

  • Looks ridable

    On a Megatower

  • I am very wet, now in a cafe in Les Gets having coffee and an omelette whilst hoping I dry out.

Two hours of “beginner to ?” Jump coaching booked for this arvo- pray it stops raining.

  • On a Megatower, probably. On a road bike with 25s, not so much...

  • Is there much xc riding in morzine or is it all uplift stuff?

  • There’s lots more than I have looked at - I haven’t even gone to the other side of the valley yet, I’m sure there are some XC trails around.

I got absolutely, totally soaked today, and did a couple of hours of coached riding including the jump park. I’m still rubbish- but I now know what I have to work on.

  • Brave man. Were you the only 2 people up the mountain? Did you hit the gaps?

    There's loads of XC BTW.

  • Not yet- I’d be stretchered off the mountain if I tried the gaps at this point.

Very much want my shoes to be dry for tomorrow- simple goals.

  • Stuff them full of newspaper if you haven't already. Weather looking better (a little further south) tomorrow at least.

  • Have done- fingers crossed. Sadly my new onesie proved to not be as waterproof as I’d like today, the main zipper is clearly meant to be waterproof but is not well made. I’ll take some photographs and email the company that make it.

  • Those "waterproof" zips are useless without a rain gusset behind them. They only seal when they lie flat: as soon as they bunch up and fold the seal opens and water gets in. TBH, I have no idea why companies continue to use them.

    Edit: grammar

  • I can very well believe that. I do think the manufacture is a bit rubbish also:
