Good job you found a cargo train to catch. :)

• #3253
Should have taken tools, built it on the street and then carried your other bike home on it :)

Would have been rad but a bit difficult with frame set only.

@inappropriate_bike for under 2k you can’t go wrong with a Bakfiets. Solid, functionally, big load area (long version) and carry x2 kids with ease. They have a nice rain cover (needed for winter riding with kids) and they are super easy to ride. Downside is that they are slow compared to say a Bullitt, but if just cruising with the kids is your style then you can’t go wrong.
We have a Douze which is similar money to a Bullitt but the wife hated the way the Bullitt handled so it was the Douze that one. We needed a fast cargo bike as I used to drop our boy off at nursery then commute 5 miles on my own to work at high speed...
If getting a family or utility bike for all round year use i’d Recommend a dynohub light system, good solid lock (motorbike chain) and seating area with cover for kids which means no matter what the weather or time of day the using a bike is always a valid option...
London Green Cycles are great and offer test rides and sometimes 2nd hand sales... I think their showroom is currently being refurbished.

Anyone ridden a Yuba Spicy Curry? Anyone had kids on the back?
-
• #3259
First build finished, needs some kids rails in the back, mudguards, lights, kickstand, OMG TOO MUCH! But it rides nice now, like a bicycle:

My shop sold quite a few of them last year. They're stiffer than steel long-tails which I've been told helps a lot with the "sway" you can experience with kids on the back of something like an ER. Otherwise the two are comparable in terms of capacity and kid-cargo accessory options.
The kickstand is utter shite though. If you can, invest in a Rolling Jackass for it.

I guess it’s good for his fixed box size.
I would personally never change the standard platform for this as I more often than not carry things larger than the platform.
To me that’s one of the best things with the Omnium compared to most other cargo bikes.

I'm thinking about funding one through the scottish government e bike grant. It certainly looks like kids fit quiet well on it.
If you guys had. 3.5 to 4k to spend on an ebike that rode well and could carry two kids (currently 3 and 5) what would you buy?

Probably a Spicy Curry. Kids take longer to grow out of longtails than bakfiets, and I prefer the Curry to the ER.
Avoid the GSD like the plague.

They, Tern from France and an Italian store which seems to be closed were the only ones I found who sell / import Xtracycles stuff. A store here in Vienna told me that Xtracycles don’t really have an European importer anymore.

This guy is worth a follow for people on Instagram (I only just found the account thanks to the Larry Vs Harry account). Currently riding a bullitt from Poland to Georgia to ski a mountain then ride back. Pretty bonkers.

Why avoid the GSD?
I've only heard good things about it. Is love one but it's really pricey. My big dummy was a lot better price wise. My only concern with the GSD is whether it's now too small for me

Nicely specced bike mate
I have all the bits you mention and I agree that they make the bike s much better everyday cargo bike. My kid carrying solution are u tube type side rails and a stoker bar. Take two easily, my third is to young to get on a bike yet. When she gets to around 9 months I'll try her on it

Rad.
That a BB30 sram crank? If so which bottom bracket are you using and what chain line does it get you?
-
• #3274
It is a GXP bottom bracket, and a GXP crank. The chain line? I don’t know what to say here, on the biggest in the rear it is almost too close to the tyre but OK so far (with a 2.3 wide one): https://www.lfgss.com/comments/14863064/
