• I don't know what the trails are like round there but I always prefer some meaty lugs on the front for holding a line, so a Minion DHF would be a go to. Having a tyre on the rear to match the front would be useful. Maybe a Minion SS instead of a full Minion DHRII. It some nice side lugs on the rear but you won't sacrifice rolling speed.

I use 2.5" upfront and 2.35" on the rear generally.

  • I think meaty lugs are going to help - especially on the way out of summer, as we are. I’m not so fussed about rolling speed as my technical skill is a bit behind how fast I can make the bike go at the moment.

If I got something knobblier like a minion, so I need to size up then? A mate has minions - I think They’re 3.5 but they seemed tiny compared to my 2.2 ikons (I assume that’s something to do with the width being made up of more tyre than knobble?).

  • Minions can size up smaller (Maxxis in general really) but it can be potluck. The standard 26" 2.5" Minion DHF I had on my Slackline actually measured 2.5". But the 2.35" DHRII I had on the rear measure more like 2.3" (just under). They were Ryde Trace 29 rims, basically 30mm internal width.
