  • Does anyone have a recommendation for a cargo bike in the £1-2k range? It's for grocery shopping, nursery runs (very occasionally with 2 kids), and taking heavy rubbish to the tip. Our immediate area is very flat - the biggest hill is Lambeth Bridge.

I've seen one of these in the wild and they look quite good for about £1,250. But they seem to be mostly out of stock. http://www.bertusbakfiets.nl/

  • @inappropriate_bike for under 2k you can’t go wrong with a Bakfiets. Solid, functionally, big load area (long version) and carry x2 kids with ease. They have a nice rain cover (needed for winter riding with kids) and they are super easy to ride. Downside is that they are slow compared to say a Bullitt, but if just cruising with the kids is your style then you can’t go wrong.

We have a Douze which is similar money to a Bullitt but the wife hated the way the Bullitt handled so it was the Douze that one. We needed a fast cargo bike as I used to drop our boy off at nursery then commute 5 miles on my own to work at high speed...

If getting a family or utility bike for all round year use i’d Recommend a dynohub light system, good solid lock (motorbike chain) and seating area with cover for kids which means no matter what the weather or time of day the using a bike is always a valid option...

London Green Cycles are great and offer test rides and sometimes 2nd hand sales... I think their showroom is currently being refurbished.
