Good god no. Pasty from the store and a coffee!

The Peaslake Village Store is so good. I'll have to try the cheese straws if I'm down that way on bank holiday. In nearly nine years of riding the Surrey Hills I've never sampled them!

What? That’s just wrong. There are few things better mid ride than a mug of tea and some cheese straws from the shop.

This sounds amazing. I haven't even built my inbred yet but I want this

I’ve got ikons (2.2) on my 26” bike at the moment and want to put something less useless in corners on the front. What’s a good pairing? Minion? High Roller? And what size?
I’m new to this off road lark and mainly easing myself round Bristol trails, displaying low to moderate levels of radness.I’m vain enough to want to stick with maxxis to avoid logo disparity.

I shall rectify the wrongness this weekend.

I'll put up a thread and link it here when I can take photos. The frame, forks and wheelset can go together as a rolling chassis if someone wants it. I can throw in tyres as well. I also have bars and stem, maybe some Deathgrips too

I don't know what the trails are like round there but I always prefer some meaty lugs on the front for holding a line, so a Minion DHF would be a go to. Having a tyre on the rear to match the front would be useful. Maybe a Minion SS instead of a full Minion DHRII. It some nice side lugs on the rear but you won't sacrifice rolling speed.
I use 2.5" upfront and 2.35" on the rear generally.

Event/riding/crashy thing going on in the Surrey Hills this weekend:

Come join me in going over the bars several times.

I think meaty lugs are going to help - especially on the way out of summer, as we are. I’m not so fussed about rolling speed as my technical skill is a bit behind how fast I can make the bike go at the moment.
If I got something knobblier like a minion, so I need to size up then? A mate has minions - I think They’re 3.5 but they seemed tiny compared to my 2.2 ikons (I assume that’s something to do with the width being made up of more tyre than knobble?).

Minions can size up smaller (Maxxis in general really) but it can be potluck. The standard 26" 2.5" Minion DHF I had on my Slackline actually measured 2.5". But the 2.35" DHRII I had on the rear measure more like 2.3" (just under). They were Ryde Trace 29 rims, basically 30mm internal width.

What are you riding around bristol- more hardback trails, or more natural stuff?
-
• #14467
At the moment I’m riding at either Ashton Court or Leigh Woods. Im not familiar enough with the terminology but I guess it’s fairly hard packed trails with a bit of rockiness here and there? I’d love to get some more varied off-road riding in at some point but at the moment free time is like gold dust!

I think my go-to then would be the ardent, possible the high roller. Have owned both (ardent is on my front wheel now), and both give a good balance of speed and grip, and are more than enough for Ashton court/yer tiz. Dhr will give gobs of grip, but you will loose some speed and nimbleness- as the name suggests, they started life as downhill tyres.
Think to watch on those trails is tyre pressure and rubber compound. The rocks are like glass when wet, so lower pressures a bit and look for a medium compound tyre; durability goes down, but you can't buy new skin.

Also, having completely missed @suffolk_boii 's list from earlier this year, am starting to get some free time back. If you/anyone fancies going for a spin, could happily find an afternoon/evening.

Nope, you have to work for that

When I come back in winter, I get shown the hose and the salve :(

I won’t post the link as it’s against the rules, but I’m eBaying some 29er carbon wheels at the mo. If anyone on here takes them I’ll happily deliver within London.

Also a dropper post, Thomson stem and some cranks.

can someone recommend some suspension forks for me?
27.5 wheels, qr, straight steerer, around 100mm travel.
I gather this is old tech, so I'm hoping i can find something cheap in the sales - so far all I've seen has got tapered steerers but i'm not in a rush to buy. what should i look for? -
• #14475
Pretty much everything 27.5" will be tapered now.
What mysterious frame do you have that takes modern 27.5" wheels but also legacy 1 1/8" head tube?
Today the itch was scratched.
