Anyone know much about the background of the people ahead of James?
The guy at the front appears to be a mathematician.

He's written up his training approach here: http://jakubsliacan.eu/srmr/2019/08/08/srmrno2_2.html

Interesting. He is exceeding his own expectations very early in the race and going hard. With a mixed athletic background and training. Hope he doesn't go pop early on.

Nice find. One wonders how many other ultra cycling events he has done.

Reading between the lines here http://jakubsliacan.eu/misc/, none. But quite a bit of ultra running.

James now up to fifth. Powering along nicely.

It’s like 3 am local time and he is still moving...

He's 14km from the village where the others stopped, he is probably pushing through to hope to find a better place to spend the night

The landscape around there looks amazing in the aerial photographs.

Skinny in a good position. Be interesting if he can keep up his usual TCR tactic of sleeping regularly then majorly gunning it. He’s not got the mountain experience of some of these guys but he’s definitely got the engine to reel them in.

Interesting view of the last 10h.. Jakub seems to have slept most and he appears to have ramped up pace a bit. Eric only stopped for 1h in the past 17h and rode through most of the night.

Everything is relative isn't it?
I think a 100mi TT is short but it's probably a big scary thing for people who only ride 10s.Any distance off road for me has to have a FTS (fuck this shit) multiplier applied. It's currently 500x the road distance. :)

Did 60km with 1200m climbing on a 13kg* full susser on Saturday. Fuck me I'm still done today.
FTS really kicked in at the 1000m climbed bit.
I am weak, though!
* this is actually quite light

13kg is about what my bike weighs... before I put anything in the bags :S
I'd like a lighter setup but I use everything I carry to some extent and I'd rather finish an event having lost time than DNF an event because I didn't have a spare or tools to fix something. Really just need to work on developing an amphetamine habit to drop 30kg and then I'd be much better in those mountains...

I know I'm so weak rite now :(

Join the club. Actually I don't know if it's weakness or just general fatigue, soreness, malaise, overuse. I feel like I've just ridden bikes enough this year...
